had an idea... is it possible to:

Hey, i had a cool idea... and i was wondering if it was possible.

I know the .galaxy files are text files... but...

Is it possible to deconnect all the stars? or have it so certain stars can only connect to certain other stars?

what i want to try to do is create a map where...

well...

take a random map.

replace all the planets with stars.

put groups of planets around those stars.

so... the planets have phase lanes to thier stars... and those stars have phase lanes only to a FEW other CLOSE stars... meaning you cannot jump straight from any one star to another... but you have to follow the phase lanes.

So... is it possible to deconnect all the stars from eachother?

it would be really epic if this was possible without moding.... but i think the answer is... make your map, connect the stars you want connected via phase lanes, and delete long range jumps from the research tree...

any thoughts? (i would really really love to be able to do this without modding)

Why not just do this in Galaxy Forge?

yeah, make a map in galaxy forge and only connect certain stars to each other. that'd be the easiest way.

That won't stop people from using long-range jumps to jump directly from star to star regardless of whether he makes a direct link between them.

Basically he's asking if there's a way to disable "long range jumps" in GalaxyForge, and there isn't.  Once researched, a player can jump from any star to any other star, regardless of what you do.

darvin is right.

I was wondering if there was some something in that text file that connects the stars but only allows those connections to be used after long ranged jumps is researched... and then remove most of those connections.

i want to be able to make so in order to go to star c from star a, you have to go though star b, instead of jumping straight to c. just like in order to go from planet a to planet c you have to go through planet b first.

the problem with maps will zillions of stars is that you can jump to any star from any star... this seriously prevents "semi-realistic" type maps with only a few planets at each star... what i kinda wanted to do... perferably without moding.

You can do the same thing by making one IMBALOLHUGE star system with a couple of "planet hubs".
Each hub would have a central planet that is the only one connected to a handful of central planets of other hubs.

certain mods have companion stars. so u can make one star system with a bunch of companion stars in it that act like planets. Then u can set the phase lanes any way u want.

derenek: ya, i could do that, but thats a mod.  umm... ya... i might as well just make a no long range jumps mod.

N3rull: well... that would do what i want... but then its not the whole semi-realistic thing i kinda wanted... however... it gave me an idea that might work. thanks.

hokey... so... I managed to kick out a map... in an ungoldly length of time... in an attempt to visualize my idea...

I posted it here https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/365908 ... if you want to take a look at it and tell me how much you love it what you think about it, that would be great. |-)
