I just watched this replay.

3v3 Premade - Very High Level of Play

For some reason the rook keeps summoning towers near the NPC towers. Not only did it not hit anyone, it crumbled without seeing any combat at all.

Not to mention this guy just posted how strong towering rooks are and, in a pro game, hammer doesn't hit anyone. Not only did he not follow his own build, he kept running away from combat leaving his team behind. He spent all that time making the tower farm only to have it crumble away while his team gets killed.

I know this may seem like I am singling him out but these rook tactics are one of the reasons why no one is willing to play rook in a pro game.

Please don't do what he did.

Just to back him up a bit, his Erebus is QUITE good (eg he could play erb in any high level game with me).  I asked him about his rook at one point and he explained his build is solely a supporting role.  He posted a guide on the strat forum that might provide some additional insight.  I didn't follow him in this replay...

Thats the problem. His tower rook did not do a lot of support.

Personally i don't like tower farms because it takes a while to setup however there are many ways to maximize its potential. For instance he could have setup 2 farms and protected both lanes. He could have used his tower offensively. He could have tried to go into melee combat.

If you do not have time to create a farm, put all your towers near the flag. At least that way you will FORCE the other team to take the damage if they want the flag.

Rook are not suppose to be completely defensive. Especially if you teamed up with ub and eb. Those 2 are the most offensive type DG you are going to get. Keep up.

I don't really find frost TB all that effective against tower farms. He has to step in range to get the Nova off and with the movement and cast time together Rook has a lot of time to land a boulder roll. It gets both better and worse as the game gets larger. If TB enters a fight in progress he can probably shut the whole lane down while everyone's distracted, but if he's the target of focus fire it's much less likely he'll get that nova off and he certainly won't want to intentionally enter tower range.

Actually i think frost tbs hurt themselves while trying to deal with tower farms. They usually soak up damage going into the center and then soak up some more damage after the nova effect fades. Unless he have friends to help him break through its a waste of time. Speaking of which the rook with farm probably can get MORE friends due to easy access to tower teleportation. Tower teleportation means instant death for frost tb.

lol, you don't frost the centre of a tower farm! You auto attack the closest tower, then frost, then rain of ice the centre of the farm (hopefully catching rook for 800damage too, and MOST DEFINITELY WAIT for a minion wave to be moving through his farm too for the xp).

If you jump into the centre of a farm you're asking for a UB-TB-Rook sandwich.

Then fire mode, give Rook a tasty fireball, drop back to frost. Autto attack the first tower down, then step forward and nova 2nd row....

The idea is to push rook and his farm slowly in the other direction, much the same way as he builds it in your direction.

You just gotta watch for his teammates tele to his towers, and as you knock them down of course the rook will raise more, but the idea is to push his frontline back, whilst still gaining creep exp and grinding rook's mana and hp down... It's a slower process than just WHAM BAM, unless you're dealing with noobs then goodie goodie!

I don't agree with the passive approach either (tower farm always in safety).  He did an excellent job of porting in to stun for his team (awesome awareness), but he kept to his strat of only being there for support.  And his team didn't capitolize on that (eg the team didn't mesh incredibly well).  Shade mentioned that he had only played 3 games with them prior to this game, so they aren't premade IMO (didn't know that when I posted the replay), but good individual players that didn't come together on a good strat to take us on.
