The dumbest question from the dumbest person

Yes friends, this is a really dumb question.

It involves the size of the ships that you build, I try to explain in my bad english:

I thought that if you make for example, a medium class ship, the size of the component matters, for example, if i make a medium ship with only one big piece, it will be seen bigger in the map screen than another medium class ship made only by the same piece but more smaller.

Instead I'm figuring out that the dimensions are relative to the construction, and it cause you to see a piece bigger that another one, while in the map screen the size of the ship is the same!

 

I know that is freaking messy.. but.. anyone understand what I mean?

The overall size of the completed ship is fixed based on the size-class, so if you put lots of huge extras on one that greatly increase its length/width, it'll be scaled down so that the total apparent size is the same as any other ship of the same type.
