Fences weird problem.

When I try to drag & copy with ctrl.

Hi,

This is the thing: if Fences is runing (i mean, not only if I'm running the configuration window, with a fence in my desktop is enough), when i drag and press control to copy a file, the explorer pop-up two (or even more) windows with the Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs folder.

I don't know if this can be a clue: the problem is when i do the drag+control to other uses either. For example, if I'm running Photoshop and move a layer with the cursor. And is not a problem whit the "copy command", because copying with ctrl+c or with the drag+secondary button works fine. And is just with the drag, if is just control+click is ok too.

Thanks in advance.

Okay, so I'm not crazy here. I've been trying to figure this one out, and I came to the conclusion that the recent update of Fences is the issue (I came here to confirm).

It's annoying, but much less so now that I have a better understanding as to where the problem is coming from.

I'm using Windows XP (Professional).

I'm also using ObjectDock and MyColors (thinkgreen)

I can reproduce the problem at will on my XP system running Fences 0.99.2032. If I lock the desktop, and unlock it sometime later, there will be 2-4 of these explorer windows open.

I have Windows XP SP2. And I'm using IconPackager either.

In the meantime, is there any way to recover the pre-release?

I need to work with Flash, Photoshop and Corel Draw a lot, because my job, and is REALLY annoying this situation.

I've been experiencing this bug with fences for a while. I'm running Vista 32, with all patches.

I've noticed that this starts up after some odd Fence error (I copy (using CNTL+V) a file from an open file explorer window, click on an open area of my desktop, and pick paste (i'm making a copy that I'm going to eventually bundle for archiving to a USB storage). Nothing happens. Check around, nothing. Try it again, and I either get more nothing, or Fences suddenly starts popping open TWO new file explorer windows to "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs"--- but the COPY finally goes through.

I've noticed that once Fences start that, it will continue doing it, no matter what, until I reboot the system.

Usually, the file that I'm copying is a zip file, or a brainzip file (it's a straight zip file that TheBrain's application Personal Brain uses as its "own" file type to distinguish it from other zip files). Don't know if that causes anything special to happen.

Does it happen with other file types?

Hello, I'm having the same problem too. I have Windows XP. I'm pretty sure that it has to do with pressing the control key, it doesn't happens all the time but always after I've press the control key, the most of the time I get two windows popped-up. Holding the control key about 30 seconds or even less I get those windows but often it's enough with 1 second.

to Zubaz:

I've had it happen on .txt and .html files as well.

Also, Fences isn't good about updating the icons on the desktop. I've noticed that when I empty the recycle bin, or delete all the files in a directoy that is on the desktop, it often doesn't (allow) update them, and leaves them displaying as full.

I began noticing this on my computer at my office.  When I lock the desktop (CTRL-ALT-DEL, Lock Computer), everytime I unlocked it there would be two windows open to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs.  If I CTRL-drag to copy something, I get anywhere between 2 and 8 of that window.  A colleague had the same problem and it stopped as soon as he uninstalled Fences.  Using Fences v0.99.2032 BETA

This is a known issue, and there should be a fix on the way soon.  ETA is TBD, BTW.

The update that resolves this should be coming next wednesday (10/7).

This can be replicated using CTRL+SHIFT+LCLICK. I love fences, but the bug is annoying; can't wait for the fix. ;)

Not seeing that here.  Can you provide more details?  OS, Bit-ness, etc.  Also, please try removing Fences completely and reinstalling, as old files may be left behind.

Have you updated to the latest build?

As long as we're talking bugs I have a few. Vista Ultimate and Vista Prem. When there is a .zip or a .rar file on the desktop and I right click and chose Extract nothing happens. If there is a picture on the desktop and select Set as background it does not apply. But if I turn off Fences the files and the pictures work.

Yup, turn off Fences and you can change the size of your icons.
