Taking Over Allied Planets

Dealing with their structures

My ally's planet was taken by the enemy.  My ally had several structures in this GW.  I went in and killed the

enemy and cleansed the planet.  I went ahead and took the planet.  But his (my ally's) structures remained.  Due

to these structures, I was unable to build due to unavailable slots.  I could not scuttle the previous

occupent's structures nor destroy them because they were "friendly" structures.  What was I doing wrong??

The planet's logistcal slots are at a set amount. Any structure occupying that gravwell will use up the logistical slots no matter who owns them. You should ask your ally to scuttle them for you or if he is dead you can force attack if you wish.

If you were playing it online with human allies, you could just ask them to scuttle it.  That's one of the things that bugs me about having an AI ally--sometimes they'll colonize stuff you want (killing a trade route).  (In the online game people regard AI allies as a waste of our real estate and resources since an AI ally isn't much better than tissue paper, so you really don't want them to have any real estate or worthwhile planets.)  Every now and then I get a chance to scream at the AI when a teammate loses his connection and an AI takes over and then colonizes a planet I had just cleaned of militia.

Indeed; there is no way to tell an AI to scuttle his structures and no way to "team kill" them in a locked teams situation (though that is probably for the best for obvious reasons...).  You will have to live with the fact that your ally is using some of your logistical slots.  That's not necessarily a bad thing if you don't need those slots yourself.

What gets me is when the AI takes over for a player who's in the eco spot.  The past two times i'ts happened to me, the AI ended up with about 10 planets and a great economy.  Of course, AI won't feed its allies and it's worthless as far as attacking other players goes.  It's like having a big dead zone between you and your other allies, eating up the real estate your team possesses and wasting it all.

This just demonstrates again why we need the ability to share planets/ships/tech, etc.  These artificial limitations are absurd...

I think knownalien is secretly on Stardock's payroll.
He's bringing out the irritating stuff about Sins diplomatical options so we're more anxious about the Diplomacy expansion.

Ha, you're not gonna fool me.

Back to the topic though, your options are:

Vasari - scuttle the planet (leave it) and KOSTURA THE GRAVWELL TO HELL. I'm not sure, but I think it will wipe the structures.

TEC - build an argonev near his structures, upgrade it with the Red Button, use, repeat.

Advent - can't think of anything, sorry.

it does annoy me... like when allies take neutral extractors that i worked hard for... fucking little snipers...

anyway, its a bitch, but all i do if i REALLY want a planet is save, quit, reload with unlocked teams, wage war, wipe out the planet, do some missions, get their trust, or not, and just re-load with locked teams again...

or ill scuttle, pull out, let the enemy wipe my ally off that planet, then 'come to the rescue' to get the planet back or me...

but hopefully Diplomacy will find a better way to fix this...

on a seperate note, 2 things:

1) does anyone think there should be a time limit from when a planet is destroyed to when it can be re-colonised by friendly/enemy/your own forces? ive seen many games where the planet was destroyed and 1.35 seconds later my forces re-colonise it. its no problem from my point of view, but from a defender's point of view it would be a bitch...

2) should all orbital structures (or at least logistical structures, as opposed to tactical ones) be destroyed when a planet it destroyed? this would solve the problem of allied structures on a planet you own...

I believe it is the combination of how easy it is to take a planet and how hard it is to un-colonize planets that messes the game a bit.

No, but if another player colonizes a planet with enemy logistical structures in orbit, they should slowly decay and be destroyed (like strike craft without a carrier).
