The biggest prodblem with Demigod and why people will quit (Please take note frogboy)

Once again this is Hit_boxes I cannot post on my account for some reason so I am using this one.

I have been playing this game since release...I sat through 45 minute waits to start games because of constant crashing and people being unable to connect.  I played through there only being 1-4 games up while the poulation was low because no one would play.  Here is my issue, now that I am very experienced with this game and its strategies I consider myself one of the better players using this game (i dont care if you agree or point out my ladder rank this is specifically going to be my issue).  THe fact that you cannot constantly play with a team and against a team or have any ideda how good someone on your or the other team actually is makes this game almost unplayable at times.  I do not enjoy playing a team with pugs...I do not enjoy playing games where it says good players only and a nub joins and ruins it.  I do not care if I win easy or lose easy it is not fun to play non competitive games.  Regardless of content if there was a way to have constantly competitive games it would be much more appealing to the more skilled players in this game.  I do not think I am the only one that feels this way and if no system is created soon to fix the randomness of the teams or know that the other team is a premade and is lying people are going to quit.

Thank you for your time and consideration to my issue.

This isn't Frogboy's fault, or Stardock's. The blame here is on GPG. As Frogboy said, "this is the game that GPG intended to make." Thats great, now we know whose fault it is that Demigod does not have basic game features! If there is an ounce of accountability around here, its obvious what should be done. Replace the DG project leaders at GPG. It is beyond obvious that their judgement is severely impaired, that they would dare be satisfied with such a broken half-game. I forget who said this earlier but DG feels like a game still in beta. No replays, no team automatch, no clan system, broken friends system, broken stats...

This is the game GPG wanted? Is it? Well, if this is the standard that GPG thinks is acceptable, I doubt very many people will buy another one of their games. I don't know if its within SD's power to do so, but if it is then SD would be wise to take SupCom2 away from GPG and hand it to another developer whose judgment can actually be trusted.

SupCom2 is being published by Square-Enix.

Something else that might help this problem is a better chat system through impulse...the current one is not very good.  SOmetimes I dont get messages, I am not alerted when receiving a message and it is hard to keep up with people.

[EDIT: by the real Stone_McPhone]

Another way to have chat improve the overall game quality is for talking to be a major part of the game.  To be honest, about 1/3 of foolish newbie deaths can be prevented by having the more expereinced players talk to them.  Additionally this allows the newbies to learn about the game while the more experienced player can have a more fun competitive experience.

Basically I'm saying that one NEEDS to be able to talk to thier teammates at least.  Typing in a game of this speed just doesn't cut it.  The chat system IS completely worthless but that doesn't really affect the game itself.  To make communication a more important part of this game, we gotta have voice chat.

Even more to this, the premade teams that f-up everything right now are all on ventrilo anyway.  When you came out with the whole gameranger thing, Frogboy, you mentioned that you dislike promoting outside software.  Well don't promote vent, have your own system!

[/EDIT]

Also on a different note would it be possible to make the random function try to avoid doubles and triples on the same team?  You would still get a random Demigod, but it would be less likely to put 3 Regulus on one team and make it a terrible game.

everyone, im one of the more experienced (ie ive played alot of dg) and i believe stone has hit it right on the nail here.  Lets make the chat system work so we can set up our own games (right now its impossible to communicate with anyone.  Your messages arent delivered, and if they are its sometimes a week later.  Im not exxagerating for emphasis.  im not a computer guy by any means but i dont think a basic chat system would require many resources.  that is not meant to be condescending in any way).  also, if we enabled voice chat with your random partners, you could talk your nub teammates through the game and everyone wins.

great game sd/gpg, alot of us have chosen to spend our time here and appreciate your continued communication and efforts.

quick off topic 2 cents... I started as a PUGer.  I made a bunch of forum posts.  People from the forum eventually joined my games and I now regularly play with them.  They look for me online and I look for them now.  Or I just play Pugs again from time to time.  A better communication system would be great, but there are still plenty of ways for hook up with good players and get better yourself as is.

All that said, better chat with pop ups or something like that could go a long way.  At least you can fairly accurately tell if 1 of your buddies is online if you add them to your friend list.

Just have the game start and say "shuffling teams" and randomly assign people to each side.

That way its less likely that all three buddies will play on the same side, but still possible.

This would be amusing and leads to the buddies being annoyed but *meh*

It would simply lead to buddies either not joining those games or not playing DG at all.  Shuffling teams is not a solution!

Besides it's not different at all from current Pantheon except for allowing Dark and Light side to mix.  Why not just ditch the concept of Light and Dark in Pantheon, ditch Scirmish and just have one random matched (and random team assigned) ladder.  Provide all the in-game and out of game support for stopping abuses of this ladder.

I think the game concept and population require a bit more radical thinking - for example I think the friends list teaming for the arranged ladder is a very interesting idea.  It caters to both the hardcore premades and the semi-permanent groups.  Allow us to check people in our friends lists and team us with them when going arranged ladder.  We definitely would need a fucntional chat/msging system for this!

Offcourse, both ladders should attempt to match by ranking with matching criteria expanding as wait time goes on.

So basically, maybe there should be only 2 ranked game play modes - random and arranged ladder.  Custom should not be counted in ranking, but games should be counted in total record (though maybe only count games where there is a human player on both sides).  In-game stats info should be something like this:

Misfortune: 118-37  76.1%
Random ladder: 3-5  37,5% rank: xxx
Arranged ladder: 0-0  NA

Frogboy probably spent 2-3 hours writing replies to this thread.

When he doesn't post certain parts of the community goad him out with "Where is Frogboy", "SD have abandoned us", "DG is dead" etc

When he does pop his head up he gets splatted! No chance!

It's a trap!

Hi Guys, Hi SD/GPG

This is my frist Post on this Forum and I'm quit new to DG but allready bit curious about some things. I think this fits in this Topic so I'm just replying.

At first I'd like to say that DG is a VERY fun game and i think it's having the Potential to become one of the greates MP-Games. (once the Bugs are fixed and a working Ladder-System is given)

The first thing i don't understand, why are customgames ranked, and why (how ever this is calculated) Is it possible that someone with 6w/8L is a lot higher ranked then someone with e.g. 100W/80L. So how ever this was suppose to work, i think it doesnt. Why don't just add the GameType "Ladder" or "Ranked" to the MP menu und let the guys who want the Competition with there teams Play the Ladder (when i remember it right most games use this method,,, i think even Supreme Commander did and it was good) and make custom games not ranked. Because they are good for getting practice and stuff.... once skirmish is working i think this my be getting an own ladder and it would be a perfect place for people to play without a team.

And to the Comment from Frogboy about the guys that want premade teams and the "Casuals"... I am 100% sure that

1) the percentage of Gamers playing this game with teams is higher than u may think

2) The "casuals" that just want to have some fun time playing DG are just happy with unranked matches where they can have fun

AND 3) the most important thing..: the Guys that make a MP-Game big and let it remain over years are the Players that stick together in Clans and searching the competition with other good players, NOT the casuals! The just 4 Fun gamer will play another game "just 4 fun" soon, but the real community is comming from the guys that invest in the game, and these are the Guys SD/GPG should pay the most attention to. Well u should not fergett the casuals, but don't desing the game for them, this will just cause the community breakdown somewhere in the future and nobody will talk anymore about "just another casual game".

Hopefully SD/GPG will think about that, because DemiGod is having a LOT potential and is a realy fun game, bring it up to the E-Sports and it will become GREAT and remain a very long Time, bring it to the casuals... and waist it.

I think people give Frogboy crap because they feel like it's their own way of feeling cool for "sticking it to the man" because he's a CEO. Having him even reading these posts is remarkable, not to mention him taking time to respond with more than 3 words to anything. I've always thought that was very cool, ever since I became a GalCiv2, and thus a Stardock, junkie back in '06.

I have no doubt he likes constructive criticism, but can we please cut out the "me me me gimme gimme" unrealistic whining? I really rue the possibility of him being pestered to the point of where he doesn't want to post like he does anymore. I liken that to someone dropping a 500lb bomb on a unicorn.
