How to reach the "Actually I can do it, HAL" achievement?

Yesterday I finally managed to beat four Hard AI opponents, but to my surprise the "I can do it, HAL" achievement did not light up. What went wrong? Could it be because one of the opponents was given the final blow by another AI player instead of me? Or was it a mistake when I made a short-lived Peace agreement with one of the AI players early in the game?

It was a mistake to make any agreement with an AI when trying to get this achievement

yeah, you are not allowed to make any peace treaties or anything. its best to lock teams just to make sure you dont get sucked in to a alluring peace treaty by accident

best thing though, play a game with 4 easy opponents. build up your empire and fleet, research everything, and when you are ready to drill holes in them, pause, save, reload the game with the AI set to hard or unfair, and proceed to wipe them out. if you are lucky, you might have a bit of a challenge by the time you reach the last AI... but i doubt it... and wham-o: easy insta-acheivement =)

good luck

Ya, well to make this easier, you could make them all on different team and disable teaming up by turning on "locked teams" that will preventing you nor your enemies from teaming up, that should it much easier for  you to handle.

Thanks to all for the quick response, you made my day!

LOL @ TheRezonator, thanks for the tip :D However, I'm trying to get the achievement without any...ahem, "covert action". Good to know that though, you never know when I've had enough and finally can't resist the temptation!

@ Mooster: That never crossed my mind, thanks for the advice. I created a very small custom map that has four opponents and about 20 planets so the action is really quite intense and usually it's the teaming up of enemy AIs that tips the scale in their favor. Of course a true hardcore veteran would never resort to such aid but I'm a wimpy rookie and see no harm in this :D

if you take rez's path, you might as well change the text file that store all of those values.

End of DauntlessAnsible's quote

Lol you would have to mod the game first and mod the gameplay.gameplay (I believe)

eh, some people like ticking boxes... whether its deserved or not =P

i always give that advice when someone asks about this achievement, just in case they are about to give up but still want the achievement

The way I did it was realy easy, howeber it to FOREVER.  When I desided to get the acchivement i chose to play on the huge random multi star map and placed 4 unfair AI's.  8 hours later i had gotten the achievment.  Ifyou go this route you will need to leave the star system for the fact that the computer putes all the AI playerts in the same system with you.

Oh and no one argues with Kirk.   and to be sure no one  will he invented kirk negotiations.
