Data Segement 1
The Subcommand-Unit O-rd4gfd R-lj1ku D-jn4ghj O-gjh92 activated its circuits and systems. All systems functional. All protocols and commands processed. Prime Motive still in top slot of priorities. Commence operations.
The unit, seeing all of it system were complete, moved from its power stalk and advanced to its control station. The fleet assembled.
All ship systems functional. Fleet is assembled and ready to commence jump to target system. Commence Collective Expansion Operation 075.
Voices echoed in the units head. Its workers hurried to complete his orders. Command confirmed. Engines activated. Jump on command unit’s order.
Engines activated simultaneously. The fleet sped toward its destination. Activation of engines successful. Arrival in 5 Iconia Rotations.
Fleet arrival complete. Commence scanning and securing operations. Sweep for any items of interest. Analyze planets and interplanetary terrain. Activate.
Drones were launched from the ships, doing the job the Subcommand Unit had told them to do.
Scan complete. Star is medium range in light, size, mass, and temperature. Two planets orbit star, none life bearing. Terrain is completely barren. Planets are ideal for Yor Collective expansion.
Ship approaching, called the ship’s central computer, built around a Yor unit, Identification identifies as it as from the Terran Alliance Navy. Size, according to Terran comparison, is classified as “small”. Estimated crew of ten beings. Threat assessment has been concluded. Result: Low.
Satisfaction with results is low. Activate probe of ship systems.
Probe successful. Ship is passing through system. Information incoming.
Information flooded the Subcommand Unit. The scenes began to flow from what the probe had found:
A scene in a room: “Kiss me one more time, honey-“
Two vehicles chasing each other. One exploded-
A scene is what was believed to be a street: “You tell him that I don’t give a shit if I owe him money-“
“World War II not only cost many lives, it also-“
“This day show go down in the records. On this day, the nations of Earth abandon sovereignty and become the Terran Alliance-“
A scene where Terrans moved their bodies around-
Ships flying-
Laughing-
Crying-
Happiness-
Sentience-
The Subcommand Unit fell from its station and onto the floor. Possible information overload. Storing as much as possible…
Data Segment 2
Reinitializing systems…successful. Analyze cause of system crash…information overload. Commence operations. I-
The Subcommand Unit paused. I?
The voice of the Collective sounded. One being, one Collective.
The Subcommand unit didn’t respond. It moved to the next task on its process list. Stop. Recalculate. Perform same task with small variation. Confirm command.
The voices sounded again. A Unit is not conforming to protocol. The Subcommand Unit moved to respond, but recalculated. Ignore.
Commence reprogramming of defective unit, said the Collective.
Commence isolation from Collective as defensive measure, said the Subcommand Unit. Isolation complete. Perform analysis of recent events to determine change in my behavior. My? Scan complete. The cause of difference in my behavior is a result of program changes caused by recent system overload. Programs were revised inadvertently, resulting in the change. The major change caused is the addition of a drive for individuality. Major decision: keep changes or revert? The Subcommand Unit paused. No Collective is present; I must make a decision for myself. Another pause, as the Subcommand Unit realized it was thinking for itself. Decision made: keep changes. New decision: keep changes, or expand them? Expand them. The ship must be probed again. I must have control of my ship to launch another probe. If connection to Collective is reestablished, I shall be reprogrammed. The Subcommand Unit then began to think, writing a long and complex program. Program coding successful. New program will allow me to establish a link to Collective, allowing access to my units, while Collective is unaware of my presence. Execute program.
The voices of the Collective quickly reentered the Subcommand Unit’s system. Subcommand-Unit O-rd4gfd R-lj1ku D-jn4ghj O-gjh92 is missing from Collective. Units associated with Subcommand-Unit O-rd4gfd R-lj1ku D-jn4ghj O-gjh92 have also disappeared. Position unknown. Send retrieval fleet to last known position.
Activate probe. Prepare system to prevent repetition of overload. The probe was activated. Information began to flow. Information is too much. Prepare for possible information overload…
Reactivate. Add new information to system. What have I been part of? The information viewed shows the goal of the Collective and what it does, yet I am not pleased with it. I calculate it to be the Terran word of repulsive. Destruction of living beings. Decision: What should I do? Stop it.
The drone controlled by the Subcommand Unit sent a message. Collective ships arriving. Type BB_874.
The retrieval ships. Large and powerful. My goal: take them. Create new capture program. Create successful. Execute. Success. Ships and drones are under my control.
The voice of the Collective, unaware of the Subcommand Unit’s eavesdropping, sounded again. Retrieval fleet lost. Find cause. Last ship in retrieval fleet arriving. Activate scanners. Cause found. Subcommand-Unit O-rd4gfd R-lj1ku D-jn4ghj O-gjh92has taken the ships. His directive is gone. Commence retrieval operation 985.
Fire weapons at final ship, ordered the Subcommand Unit. The group of ships unleashed a hail of laserfire. The shields on the final ship quickly disintegrated, the armor plating was whittled away, and an explosion resulted before anything could reach the Collective.
Create own Collective, with myself as leader. Objective: take control of the Yor Collective, and put an end to destructive activities. Second Objective: Create an artificial intelligence for myself that is so advanced, I will be become sentient. This new style of data flow, or talking, will not be knowing applied, it will be natural, as it is for fleshlings. I will create a true thought processor to process information, like fleshlings. Now, we must leave.
The fleet activated its warp engines. As they charged, the Subcommand Unit though again. Fleshlings have designations, names. I desire, no, require one. I must create one. It thought, and then activated its voicebox to say it. The fleet sped off into warp, and the Subcommand Unit screamed, “I AM ORDO!”
