advent in entrenchment

i was curious as to what is a good starting strategy for advent in entrenchment.  i seems like theres more volcano and ice planets than terrain planets so i have to build civ stations before i can build military labs to get illums? any thoughts?

You can build three labs on your homeworld after scuttling your cap ship factory (assuming quickstart). These can all be military and you can rush to illums. You can then use your asteroids to get enough labs to start colonizing ice/volcano (assuming you haven't already beaten them with your illum rush, which you should have done).

don't worry about building the civ startions.  as vitamin said, just build your military, as you can't get to your illum rush if you've build civ stations and researced habitats.

Because Advent usually brings out their second and third caps earlier than other factions, I don't feel that scuttling your capital shipyard is a good move.  Works for Vasari and TEC who often delay their second cap until after their first is level 6, but I don't think it's as applicable to Advent.

First things first: scout scout scout.  Find out what your position is like before you start investing cash into labs.  What immediate planets are available to you for expansion and the proximity to your enemies should guide that decision.  There is no solid right answer as to what to do, but there are definitely wrong answers depending on your starting situation.

If you're not rushing, defidently don't scrap your cap factory. Do the basic capture the nearby asteroids, develop them, and then get the three military labs and two civic labs (if their are enough nearby planets to make it worth while). The size of the map should decide weither you rush or build civic labs first. I personally only rush when their is less than thre jumps to the nearest enemy homeworld, and if that is the case you will probably not build civic for most of the game (unless you stalemate for a long time). 3-5 jumps gives you some space, but you their is a chance you will get raided, probably not with the intent on taking you out of the game but for damaging your econ or to destroy your cap ship. Thus you should still build military first, but don't slack on civic either (two labs are easy to build with even two planets). If its six or farther you could probably get away with civic first, just make sure to start building defenses early just in case.
