map editor questions

backround, population

Hello!

2 quick map editor questions - ive desided to start messin' aound with the tools a bit, and ive got it im my mind to set up a long, slow, Minor Ascendant type map, giving the Minor's significant bonus's in the race file, and new personality types so they will better be equipped to spread out.

anyhow, questions!

1) is there a way to Disable the nebula / star backround in the map editor? replaceing it with a flat black backround would go a long way to keeping my eyes from going cross after a while. Mayhap its just my monitor is old as dirt, but even in game, for whatever reason although it looks good, nebula always seem to give me a headahce, and i have turned them off in-game, but working with the map creates the same effect.

2) all the major races i place, homeworld etc, start out with just 1b pop, whereas the minors ive set up to appear by placing  class 0 planets  on the map start out at 8b. Although this is good in a way, im mainly just wondering what i have done wrong (right?) to create this?

thanks in advance, and if these questions have already been answered elsewhere, i appologize for my search-blindness.

1) Yes... the png files to edit into whatever you'd want instead can be found in the GFX\SPACE folder; through using the same names and loading the alternate versions from a Mod folder, yours would replace them. (Even though the Map editor itself has a 'default' background, there are some compiled codes which allow such graphic resources to be replaced WITHIN the executable -- never tested if this is possible with THAT editor though.)

2) Default values which, AFAIC, can't be "modified".

Search? Here?

Pfffffftttt, it's chaos.

Go to the Twilight quicklanch menu (you know, that brings up the little square box: it's the default start manu icon, IIRC) and click the editors button. This will create a smaller window with buttons for all the editors: click map editor, and it will come up.

It's included with twilight, iirc. It's not up for download seperately. Check your main twilight directory for the different editors if you can't bring up the menu.

Oh! The GC2IDE! That is currently being upgraded by i-Mod, and is not yet available for public use. Plus, the mapeditor never worked for me anyway.....
