About the Missiles graphics

So alot of people complain that they cant see the Missile Barrage when it fires and i, in general, cant see missiles fullstop unless im zoomed in close enough to read the magazines in the lavatory (sorry for the exaggeration)

Anyway, i know IC just changed the effect for the Missile Barrage, but i was thinking, in the middle of a battle with weapons firing everwhere red exhaust will still be hard to see...

So, i just saw a reall nice graphics mod where the tips of the missiles were glowing with an exhaust trail behind them, some were solid blue-greeny lines, some were softer red lines, etc etc

I know its unrealistic, but why not make the actual missile itself glow? or at least increase the size, colour etc of the overburn (the fat bit of flame just as it comes out of the missile and tapers to a point, you know) so as it generates the same effect.

I think aside from aiding in noticing when Missile Barrage goes off, it would also make for nice eye candy. Imagine zooming in and staring across at a fleet of LRM's, and have them all fire at you and just see this wall of glowing destruction coming your way... awwwwrite!! =P

you can't see the missiles probalby to conserve graphics space, as well as game space.  i think it would be pretty annoying to see missiles everywhere from LRFs instead of the actual ships themselves, as missiles will outnumber ships in that case

The volumetric explosions mod has nice bright missile effects.

thats true, but it's only when you zoom in.

if i'm mistaken please correct me, but i thought the OP was talking about missile graphics when not zoomed in

Glowing missiles perhaps.

I'm thinking like a big red crosshair the size of MB range. Really just something big and visible just before the missiles start popping out so you can see it from a good distance.... See it and friggin RUN!

Some graphical effect for missile barrage needs to be visible at larger zooms.  The new graphics haven't changed much because we have to have our zoom so close in to actually reveal the graphic that the increased visibility isn't necessary!

We could have the a nice load defcon style warning siren each time one fires... }:)

 

Though that might bee slightly out of place in space, so perhaps its better we nerf it agian? Or perhaps it can get its own icon?

so... make the glow smaller than the ship? as it stands, at the right zoom level, you can still see weapons fire (lasers etc) while some of the smaller ships have already converted to their icon display... im not talking about anything huge here, but just enough to see missiles at something larger than a zoom as if i was riding the damn missile myself.

yeah, i know, i got this idea from one of those mods... but why should people have to run a mod to get an effect that could be implemented by the devs in their sleep, and generally have a positive effect on the community at large?

like i said above, at the right level of zoom, you can still see some, if not most weapon effects, but for missiles and even auto cannons to a degree, you cant see those weapons firing unless you zoom right in. Autocannons are not as important, but missiles are quite powerful in the arsenals of both the Vasari and TEC, so seeing them should be quite important...

that sounds good, except i dont like the idea of it denoting the range of the MB, that just sorta ruins it, as no other AoE ability has a warning effect that also denotes range... its like, haha, im about to MB your ass, oh, but just in case you were wondering, this is its max range so by all means please try and get out of the way...

however, i like the idea of something big and visible, like other abilities have hands pushing out from the cap or the volatile nanites have that golden cloud effect, of just random rays of light shining out of the cap or a big green oval envelops a ship, i think something of comparable or slightly larger size would be good, a crosshair like you said would be good, or a triangle sign with missiles spewing out... it doesnt really matter, but something big and cosmic is also needed for MB. regardless, though, i would still like missiles to glow so you can see them in combat

i dont have a problem with a sound effect in addition to a visual cue, but sometimes i play with sound muted while watching TV (i have a laptop) and im pretty sure other people would have similar situations, so an exclusively audio cue could be useless...

idn, i think there are alot of mods with good things that could be brought to the game that the devs should maybe look at, at least for Sins 2, if they ever consider it. however i think the things in a graphics mod is something that should seriously be looked at for consideration for being implemented as standard
