End of game victory/defeat scenes...

Can they be turned into desktop wallpapers?

Relatively new to the game here, I just bought it four days ago on a whim (it was on sale for $20). I didn't even think it would work on my aged relic of laptop, circa 2007 A.D., which can't play most games published past 2003, but I was pleasantly surprised and have spent dozens of hours on it since.

Anywho, to the point: just wondering if those nicely done images which are shown at the end of a game when you've won or lost can be used as wallpapers. I'm technologically illiterate so I'd need precise instructions on where to extract the images from the game files if that's possible and how to get them into MS Paint (I usually copy images into MS Paint and save them as jpegs or pngs for later use). It would be even better if someone had already done this and had the images handy for copy/paste, but that's a long shot.

Also, I've considered what I'm asking may not be legal, but again have pity on my slow-to-accept-the-new-reality-that-is-the-Digital-Age mind (why don't computers come with paper manuals anymore?); ignore me if what I'm asking will provoke the onslaught of the federal government (or the developer, but they can only sue, not put me in an underwater supermax), 'cause I ain't got a clue. If it is legal, again have pity on me and my overcautiousness.

You can tell I don't go on forums much, but I really want a slick new wallpaper and these scenes would fit the bill...

okay, i cant tell you where to find them, and i cant go look right now (sorry), but i wanted to let you rest assured its not illegal or anything. if you try to sell it sure, or pass it off as your own, but just using it as a wallpaper wont be an issue =)

if you dont mind a quick fix you can always take a screen shot, either by alt + print screen, or im sure there is an in-game function that does the same.

once you do the print screen thing, just put it in paint and voila =)

good luck

Why not take a screen shot right after you won?! before you exit the screen.

^Because the thought never occured to me! And wouldn't that also get the quit game/continue playing button box in the screenshot as well? I'll try it on my next game and see what happens.

harpo- I've found the texture files and I'm trying to figure out what program can be used to open them. Do you or anyone else here know what to use?

My gratitude to everyone for their help.

You can use Photoshop. You need to download the .dds plug-in (google it, you should find it). If you don't have Photoshop, you can get the free alternative. It's called Gimp. Again, google that and it should come up. It also needs a plug in to open .dds, but it isn't too hard to find.

Hope this helps.

That did the trick, I've finally got the images open. Unfortunately for me, they're squarish and have a rectangle in the upper half where everything's darkened, it looks like that's where the quit/continue button box goes. Better than nothing at least, I'll fiddle with them until I get them how I want. Thanks, all.
