Twilight and previous Ship Designs.

Sorry if this has been covered in the past, but I couldn't find anything from a brief search.

Having not played Gal Civ for some time, I just bought Twilight of the Arnor and started up a game to find my ship designs were missing. So, I copied over the ships and shiptemplates from Dark Avatar but the majority of them do not cross over. They work fine in DA I just checked; they are all barebones models with just hull pieces on. However, in TotA they are missing numerous pieces, have pieces rotated at strange angles etc. Is there any quick and easy way to resolve this as I have absolutely no desire to sit and redesign the entire range of ships for each race.

Thanks

Did I not provide enough information.... or is there no known answer.... or has no Stardockian seen this yet? o_O

I'd really appreciate some answers. I bought and downloaded the game 3 days ago and it's still sitting there unused because I really don't know what I can do about all my ship designs. I've got pretty much all classes of ship designed for all the races - starting from scratch is a bit disenheartening. x_x

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Sorry to reply again to my thread, but I still seem somewhat devoid of responses! ;P

I can't believe I have a unique problem, so I am sure that this has been asked and answered before.

If no one has a solution, perhaps they know of a place where I can post my problem and expect a more immediate response?

I have to say that I am pretty surprised at the lack of official response too - do the Stardockians no longer respond to fan enquiries? They used to be very active here!

Good week to you all, looking forward to your replies.

In TA the race-style numbering system was changed and many of the cosmetic pieces were remodeled to improve symmetry, fix hardpoints that did not quite point in the right direction, etc.

While this is a good thing for ships designed within TA, it means that a lot of models from DA or DL can't be directly copied over without either completely overhauling them or replacing the old models back into TA (which while it'd fix the ones you're copying in, it'd mangle the new templates similarly). So the actual solution would be to do both--copy the old models back over with different names, so they're accessible but don't replace the new ones, then update your ship design files in notepad to use them. But it's a lot of work, so only you can decide if it's really worth it.

Thanks a lot for the reply Kryo! :)  Ooh you've become a Stardockian since the last time I was here - congrats! ;)

That does indeed sound like a pain in the rear and I wouldn't even know how to begin. I just checked and I have 267 ship templates in DA - they're all the barebones models I thematically designed for every race's ship of each class, plus some custom races. Trying to get that lot all sorted sounds like a headache of hemorrhagic proportions!!

Wish I had known about this before as I wouldn't have bought TA! I was still happily playing DA every now and then, and only really bought TA for the Immense map size!

EDIT: Just to make it clear that I am not complaining in that last sentence - still very happy to support Stardock, even if I won't actually play this game.

@Kryo, it is possible to bring a DA ship to ToA ship. How do you update your ships desin files in the notepad. What is it you actually do?

@Spearthrower, 267 ships in template file, does that make you problems with "Our of Memory" error? It has happen to me alot even if I set it on 10,000MB

I can imagine what Kryo means vaguely, it would just take a lot of copy and pasting with some editing to change numbers and stuff. But I wouldn't dare try without more information.

I think I've only had 2 or 3 crashes in hundreds of games, so I have no idea why that would occur based on the shiptemplate file?
