Best Map?

also, which maps suck!

I figured I'd open discussion up to thoughts on the maps.

I love playing on Leviathan. It seems to be well balanced with enough open space to move around in while still giving you lanes to control. Plus you get the ability to capture portals and send 50% more creeps at your enemy. Nothing else seems to be close. I like Cataract a lot but the map really lends itself to being dominated by Regulus. Really any map that isn't physically large suffers this fate. If he's not in the game this makes for a nice map as well.

Exile is ok. A really nice looking map with the interesting Crystals at either side. Pretty fun to play on but it seems like some players have a lot of trouble with it.

I hate Prison and won't play on it. Too small and no lanes. The game is just a big gank-fest and feel like there's much less strategy than any other map. This is a shame because the map looks awesome. I love the giant creature in the middle.

Zikkurat is a cool map but seems really limited by forts. The first team to get Trebuchets wins the game almost automatically.

Ditto.

But maybe this opinion will change now that I have started playing TB more often. Rook has a hell of a time on Prison, as he relies so heavily on sticking to a lane in the early-mid game.

I hate Crucible. It's the worst and most unbalanced map imo.

My favorite map would probably be zikurat. I just like the tower layout and the way it looks. It's not as dreary and depressing as some of the other maps. I think of it as a larger version of cataract.

Hey jager, never thought of it as unbalanced, but then again, i don't think.  How do you mean?  I'm really asking to, i've always just had good games on it.

I've always had bad games on it.

With Crucible there's only one lane with creeps. If an enemy DG manages to out-level you he can monopolize that lane and make it impossible for you to farm creeps without the risk of being killed. Erebus can bat swarm to the other team's portal from across the gap, and tower Rooks can build towers in your lane to stall you in your base.

I'm really speaking out of spite more than anything else. I just hate that map because all of my worst losses have been on Crucible.

I like Prison and hate Cataract but to everyone else it's the other way around.

I do admit Prison is massively flawed in that it's all about movespeed and there's no fleeing to the towers.  Same with Exile though, which I actually do hate. (Healing crystals in the middle = wtf)

Crucible is cool if you have lots of players, which seems contrary to its existence.

I've decided I like Leviathan despite the far side lanes being utterly useless.

The 5v5 maps are all crap in my opinion, they're all too big and have useless lanes and buildings scattered randomly around.

I hate healstones in anywhere other than your base.

Crucible is ok. Prison is ok.

I dislike Cataracts because it is too easy just to steal the side creep generators, once the front line towers fall.

Levathan is a good map, FAV! =)

I like zikkurat (despite being a 5vs5 map its really good in 3vs3 already) and Cataract most.

jager i know what you mean, I had a rook just push towers up our aces all freaking game.  It was a learning experience...

Prison is fine. its a good arena style map.

Cataract is the best all around map. simple, well balanced, and the right size.

Crucible is a crime against humanity and should be removed from the game.

i like them all. what's everone's problem with some specifics of some maps? they all require adjustments of your strategies. i don't get the problem. and i also don't get how a map which is symmetric could be unbalanced... although i must agree that rook kicks ass on crucible!

if u think prison is bad, ur bad

Maps themselves aren't unbalanced but certain characters/combinations have significant advantages when, say, choke points are involved.

And sure, everyone could play those characters but some (rightly, in my opinion) are always going to be concerned with the notion of having to play character X to be competitive on map Y.

Oh, and on topic, I agree with the first part of the OP.  Leviathan is good fun for all the reasons you listed.  For my part though, I enjoy a good Prison brawl every now and again.

Prison is probably the most balanced map. Not a whole bunch of intermediate towers to whittle your enemy away at. You're either in their base or in the middle where it's fair game. The portals are deep in your base.. no risk of ninja capping like cataracts (which is a fine, effective strategy in itself.. but not the most confrontational imo). End of the day, better team holds 2/3 flags get rank 10 and giants and wins on that map. If you can't survive without towers to run back to that's fine. I couldn't either when I started playing. But the more you play without a crutch the sooner you improve.

Do you play Rook?

I would like (being sincere) to see a Rook fare well on Prison. I know there are many players out there who are better than me... But I just don't see how Rook could possibly keep up on Prison in an even match.

People have the impression that he is this extreme tanking badass. Meh. I can't think of a single DG who a Rook can reliably kill before hammer slam three.

Most Prison games I play don't make it much past that point.

how about the tower rook holds the gold flag all game, so his whole team gets huge amounts of gold while the other doesn't as well as preventing the enemy from buying artifacts? -> very good

If he's holding the "gold flag" all game then the other team is holding the other 2 flags all game.  Goodbye war score.  Or he's not leveling.

My favourite three maps:
Cataract
Prison
Zikkurat

This. A rook needs to hit every single creep wave to stay in the game.

OrexxerO. Trust me.

Anyway, I'm not a fan of Prison, but I don't hate playing on it either. My favourite map is probably Exile. Movement is very important on that map, moreso then others, making flag control a very fun game in itself.

cataract is over played

prison is a good map if u like  no lanes

zikurat  i found kinda  boring the  defenses aren't to to break through

exile is the best designed  most fun to play  a balanced map

mandala  huge map loads off lanes  all about  conserving hp earily game and trying not to get hit

crucible  is small good if u know your teammate shit if u dont

leviathan is a wierdly shaped one  with quite a bit off creeps

the brothers  is a simple 2 lane map with alot off other bits   size wise is pretty big

all maps need stratergy and tactics  not one or the other   some maps use more off one then the other

prison u need more tactics  rather then stratergy

for a map with multiple lanes u need stratergy and tactics

Prison is awesome for slaughter....because in all honesty.....you ll just go around and gank together, and its easier on that one. For anything else, cataract is best.

Exile gets my vote as my favorite. Prison is a 2nd, while cataract is indeed overplayed.

Rook is awesome on Prison, his towers allow you to set up a safe heaven in the middle and to start cutting off sections of the map.
