Admiral-Dreadnuaght Ship Idea

I've bean seeing a couple of super capital ship ideas going around and I thought that it would be realy cool if the creators would consider it as an idea for a mini expansion.

There will be to votes going on. One for a Super weapon, another for a buffed up Capital ship.

For the buffed Cap I am basing the idea off the post by Brazilain_Joe. Post is called Admiral ship (super capital ship)

YES 4

NO 1

THe other is for some sort of Super ship.

YES 1

NO 3

Just say Yay or Nay.

Nay

Arm Your First Fleet or your Admiral Fleet Like Nuts Then

Because there is one thing to consider, what research you have to do to get the admiral ships, whether or not to require a certain number of capital ships before you can get admiral ship or how much it will cost to get an admiral ships etc, and the abilities. Unless someone could name at least 4 abilities that an admiral ship should have my answer is nay.

It might not be a bad idea for a mod.  I'm guessing it would be similar to a mobile starbase?

Superduper ultra ship? Nay.

I do like the idea of an admiral that you can put on a capital ship, who then grants... I dunno, some form of fleet buff, though. That could be nifty.

I would be up for some sort of Admiral/Hero to add to ships to add bonuses.  Could have ace pilots for smaller ships also.

yeah, i like the idea of these hero admirals/ace pilots etc... (a little less for ace pilots though, individual SC can die a bit too easily)

i would personally prefer a destroyer to a super dreanought whatever.

just something with multiple banks/weapons like a cap ship, but no abilities, and not as potent as a cap ship (i.e. not as damaging)

it probably wont go through, lots of people are afraid of more ships or anything that might tip their precious precocieved strategies

but oh well

Ok I am about to go on a limp here. But an ability would be to be a boast in morale which causes increase in acurracy or damage done maybe?

isn't having a high level cap pretty much the same thing as having a "admiral ship"  a lvl 6 cap is already several orders of magnitude more powerful than a lvl 1 cap.  I do like the idea of having some kind of experience for other units tho, to give some sort of value to keeping your ships alive.  maybe only 3-5 lvls instead of 10 like for caps.

opposing viewpoint:  experience for fleet ships would make losing one battle even more detrimental to the overall game, so maybe its not such a good idea, the boost exp gives would have to be small enough to not tip the balance too far.

Here's my suggestion for flagships.

The flagship would start out like a regular capship, however, its max level would be 12 and it would be able to level its super ability up 2 levels.  These upper levels would only be available at level 11 and 12 so early fleets wouldn't see too much difference.  Each race would have a choice of 3 of their race's capital ships to use as a flagship, with each races' battleship always being available, and 2 of that races more iconic ships (Evacutator for Vasari, Marza for TEC, etc) being the other options.

This could also open the option of a new win condition for destroying an enemy's flagship, sort of like an assasination game.

Ahh... tasty tasty bomber swarms. :P

That said, I'm absolutely all for more game modes - if all you've got is skirmish/multiplayer, it'd be nice to mix it up a lil'.

I used to play a space RTS that was a lot like sins. In it you could build a "Fleet Academy" where you could train admirals. The admirals all had different types of buffs, some buffed fleets, some buffed a single ship, some buffed SC, some added another ability to the flagship. and some did both. When you trained an Admiral, it would build a shuttle, that you would then target a specific ship in your fleet. The shuttle would dock with the ship and it would then be the permanent flagship of the fleet. I think something like that would be stellar. You could only train I believe it was 3, out of a 5 possible choices. I can imagine that would probably be pretty easy to MOD, but I don;t know I'm not a modder.

Interesting idea on its modability. A little tricky to rig up, but... hmn. Perhaps, perhaps. It can certainly be done without the shuttle; and there's something to be said for the strategic factor of forcing one to send a high level capitalship 'back home' to collect their admiral from a large expensive building that chewed up all your tactical slots for the planet... :)

I'd also like to point out that you've actually got three ideas going here - your idea of a Super Dreadnaught, Brazillian Joes idea of a Level 11 Capship type thing, and my idea of having a buff that grants a capital ship an admiral - which in turn grants that ship (and its attendant fleet) a variety of bonuses.

Certainly very doable. You would have to create just a small shuttle like mesh, give it an ability that only targets capital ships, then give it the behavior that stabase constructor vessels take when hey vanish and the starbase appears, just no starbase of course.

Maybe someone should wave down the devs.

People this is just a poll note actually a suggestion place.

supership nay

Buffed capital yay

Deceiver_0: My concern about the shuttle is essentially that once the shuttle's gone, what's to stop you creating a new one?

Now, as a graphic effect for a building-based ability, no sweat. The Admiral buff lasts as long as a) the capital ship is alive, b) the Strategic Command center remains intact. When you fire the buff, a little ship flies off towards the capital ship in question, who then gains Admiral status (which includes a pretty little icon overhead so you can tell it apart). He can then fly off to do Great And Exciting Things.

Well, assuming there's no annoying catch like phase space shutting down all activated abilities... but let's just hope not on that one for the moment. :P

Update: Abilities can indeed be rigged so as to work after phase jumps (Was pretty certain, but it's nice to know, y'know?), and better yet, everything else is trivial. I'm going to work on hacking together a quick'n'dirty version of this... muahahaha. :D

no on both.....
