Alienware Aurora

I've been looking at buying this computer

http://www.alienware.com/products/aurora-desktop.aspx?SysCode=PC-AURORA-R5&SubCode=SKU-DEFAULT

I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with Alienware, in particular their 34-month payment option.

Alienware is a huge company currently owned by Dell. They will not take your money and disappear if you are worried. In general I recommend self built computers, but if you have no experiance, desire, or just a extreme excess of money, go for the Alienware.

Alienware's prices tend to run high but the product is excellent. Homebuilt is certainly cheaper if you know how. If not then I agree with themadmanazn...go for it. Big ass bang for your buck.

I got a customized laptop for 150-or so a month. If you have a sound job, and lots of extra cash monthly. I'd say go for it. I feel so badass carrying mine in it's laptop case. ^-^

I have an older Alienware.  The computer works great!!  A real beast.

However, I had one problem with the mainboard and the customer service from Alienware (before DELL purchased the company) was atrocious!

So, in my experience, I would say Alienware makes good computers, but has lousy customer service.  Hopefully, Alienware has improved their repair servicing since being bought by DELL computers.

I've heard good things about the following two companies (I'm looking at buying a new computer in 2010 or 2011):

sorry...new here and cant figure out this inserting link business!! >:(

check out iBuypower PC and cyberpower PC and Digital Storm PC

OT...how the heck do i post a link?????  The insert link button is always greyed out and unavailable.  When copy a link and try to paste in the thread I get a message saying that this forum does not support cut and paste.

thanks!

Has anyone used the 34 month payment option? How exactly does the interest work with that?

I just priced out a computer that cost $1748usd compared to a system I recently build for $1700cdn after taking my cut (I build custom pc's to make a bit of extra cash).  The Alienware pc had a slower processor, videocard, smaller monitor, etc etc.  The benefits were that the alienware included vista home premium and a cool looking case.  The pc I built cost me a hair over 1500 for me to build.  You can really save a lot of money building a pc yourself or findind someone who knows how and offering them some cash to do so.  Even a local pc shop that will build it for you will probably do you better - ask for a quote and give them your budget.

It works by you bending over.  Seriously a 34 month plan?  Dont buy it if you cant afford it. That is almost a 3 (2.9)year plan.

They charge from 15-30% apr interest https://www.alienware.com/Payment_Pages/Titanium/Apply.aspx.  So a $1000 system that = an aditional $450 to $900 over that 3 years of payments.  That means your buying a $1000 computer for $1450 to $1900.   Great deal huh?

Seriously Save yourself some money and build it yourself.  You can get better preformance for the money.  But from a place like newegg.com, and check out tomshardware.com for information on computer parts/building.  They even list parts and priced to build current low/mid/high tange systems.

Building a computer is not hard, and there are plenty in howtos avalable,

Personally id say no to alienware.

Not due to it being a bad product. I've never said it for that reason. I am just to cheap to fork that kind of cash and id rather just build my own. BUT like others say if you don't know how then yes alienwares are good. Pricey but yes they will come fully built , clean, and work pretty good. And being w/ dell = support if you ever have issues (and if you have the warranty and anything breaks you just send it back and they fix anything for free).

So depends ... if you can build or not. :P.

Well I definetely can't build one but I imagine it wouldn't be that hard if I know people who can help me out (which I do).
