Has the game died already?

I'm guessing multiplayer word-of-mouth issues have killed the game.  I bought it despite hearing all the horrible reviews and in many ways I regret it, but thought I'd try and get the most out of the purchase.

Sadly, I think between the craptastic online system, horrible AI, and nearly impossible to come-from-behind aspect of the game (we did have 1 come from behind win in almost 418 games I'm tracking), this is relegated to DOTA die-hards and bargain-basement games shoppers in about 2 weeks time.

I guess that is why there is already a 50% off coupon :/

Too bad but reversing this is impossible.   Or you can mention a game that has come back from the dead...  ;)

Note - Meant to say 118 games, not 418.  But the editing features of this forum are about as great as the online multiplayer ;P

Or at least half the time I try and edit a post, I get HTML markup and then can't save it (after entering reason) because it keeps saying it needs a message.   Say wut wut?

BTW, I used to bash BattlNet (Blizzard's online system) once in a while but in hindsight, that thing is GODly given the competition, and to think it's been out for about a decade and growing strong.  SC2 should cement it as the best ever past, present, and future.

I'd hardly call a game dead when the list of custom games is never empty. Even when list might be low, you just Host and you get 8 players in less than 30s.

Brand new game with a ton of hype and 10 or so custom games at any point and time is great?   Yes, maybe not dead...but definitely not thriving.

Add to it I'm not a big fan of custom games but with the Pantheon severly lacking in any area you can point to (I won't rehash the threads about it), and I guess I don't blame you for pointing out custom games since there isn't much else to try and salvage.

BTW, since I bought this - I'm not rooting against it, but I'm struggling to find the silver lining as a fan of games like this.  Someone help me see it :)

yesterday there was the opposite problem man

there were so many ppl that me and my friend HARDLY could join the same game, we had to pick a game 1/8 and click and often in that time the game was already full and we couldnt get all inside

Well, maybe I'll look more at custom games, but what I love about BattleNet is that ranks are exremely visible and it tries, as best as possible, to match according to ranks.

Not perfect, but the data is extremely reliable and equally visible.  Here, you need to run your own version of an Oracle business intelligence data set-up to crunch your own numbers just to have anything accurate (yes, I know, they are working on it like all the other issues)

actually there seems to be an increase, at least with customs and the forums. new faces all over the place

it was dead from the start. demigod is just a filler till Q4 2009. more than a month and they r still fixing net code. guess how much time will it take to fix pathfinding , skill activation, balance - issues. i guess ~ 2-3 months. even die hard fans will say "fuck it" by that time.

Most games take a year + to balance and get rid of all the bugs. SC:BW is 10 years old and still getting bug fixes.

Well, I'm ok with balance issues since those are tough no matter how much you QA (although given the immense number of issues, one has to question how much QA happened).   And small, non-game breaking bugs are allowable as well - to a certain extent.

But the multiplayer issues in today's age of gaming is an embarrasement no matter how you try and justify it.

That said, they have been open about how bad it is and how much they wish it wasn't - and are trying to fix it.

But sadly, although I am an exception and still bought the game hoping for the best, I think many are heeding the word-of-mouth and reviews and are staying away.

lmao at this post.

Have 2k people online at one time is not dead.

Lobby list means nothing - lots of people do Pantheon/Skirmish and so do not show up in the lobby and most players are already ingame. Since games take quite long (30 mins+) which is longer then most RTS, there will be less games showing.

This game will only grow in activity with the support Stardock are giving it.
This games balance is 100x better then any blizzards game was one month after release - fact. And if you ar expecting 100k people online at once, your not going to get it - end of story. No matter how good the game was it didnt have an army of fanboys following it from previous sequels or anything.

I think your first line summed up your post :)   Lie much?  And I'm guessing by your post you've never played a Blizzard game.  Even if I wanted to hate Blizzard, there is a reason haters and fanbois always proclaim them the best gaming company...evah.

Although I don't really give much credence to fan or haters.  You just need to listen to what other gaming COMPANIES say about Blizzard.  They literally fall over in awe and so would I.  They are the model every single gaming company that isn't closing down their doors tries to emulate.

After all, what is this game based on?   Ooops, I didn't mean to go there.

P.S.  Fact.

Wait, you have played 118 games and seen only one comeback?!? I've seen lots and I have played max half that number of games online. Certainly a number on par with other RTS-style online games.

Well, if you consider that the vast number of Pantheon games at least almost always has at least one person drop before the end (either rage-quit, has bad teammate and quits, or simply quits when they can tell there is no comback since it is nearly impossible in Demigod), then the other player is stuck with AI.

That in and of itself = loss usually or they simply quit at that point too (and I don't blame them).

So yeah, although comebacks are theoretically possible, they are an extreme rarity.  Maybe in arranged custom games they happen much more, but I should clarify I'm speaking of Pantheon games which is all I play.

Wow...Did you buy Starcraft on the day of release? You know it took about 1.5 years or so before it was actually balanced? Where the hell is the "Lie" in that? I have no idea why your talking about random blizzard shit, I honeslty couldnt care less. The point is that on release, Starcraft's balance was not as good as Demigods. And tbh Starcraft isnt even that balanced on some of the official maps.

After all, what is this game based on? Its based on a MOD that has nothing to do with Blizzard except its engine - which has actually been the only thing holding DotA back, hence why they are making LoL. Thanks for your pr0 post.

Not once did I say anything bad about Blizzard, I am just saying its true that on release Starcrafts balance wasnt as good as Demigods :) You said that one of the issues with Demigod is balance....thats the complete bs. The best thing about Demigod atm is the balance.

reason for the numbers, it was only released in the rest of the world on 22 of may, well that is soonest that I could get my hands on a copy, yeah there is more than just america out there :)

Why do people compare this game to Starcraft? It's like comparing apples to oranges. I for one love Demigod but Starcraft is meh for me. I will play Starcraft 2 once, just for the story and that's it. MP wise they are not the same, not even remotely.

If you need one game to be afraid of, that game is League of Legends, or Dota 2, as many call it.
