A blossoming advent player

who would like to learn...

Hello, I've recently gotten both the vanilla and its expansion, and through browsing and some quick games I've decided that I enjoy the Advent, and have recently taken it apon myself to help with the Steel Command project on the Multiplayer Organization forums (if your curious), I would like some tips or basicly a whole compendium in "how to play advent in multiplayer." and if it all possible I would like to know if their are methods or ways in going about an offensive / culturaly dominating strategy or ways that could make it work, and if its not at all feesable other strategies tactics on diffrent methods/styles of gameplay.

Anyhelp in regards to said post would be much appreciated thank you.

Advent are the kings of spamming (as far as I've seen)... that is, Illums and Carriers will get you far... until you're countered, but by that time (at least for AI) it's too late for your foe.

But, IDK, I'm a TEC myself.

Early game: illums and flak

Mid game: add carriers and guardians with repulsion

Lategame: holy trinity (halycon, mothership, radiance) and a shitload of illums in your battleball

That should summarize the most common tactics for the advent. Depends on the map whether or not (and if so, when) to get trade, culture etc.

The trinity is Radiance - Rapture - Progenitor. Trinity = ability synergy.

1) Radiance uses Animosity to force focus fire on itself

2) Rapture uses Vengeance on Radiance to retaliate the focus fire damage

3) Progenitor uses Malice to propagate retaliated focus fire damage

It sounds more effective on paper than it actually is.

What's the best strategy to take on late game vasari with fully upgraded phase missiles?

I've been playing 1vs1 with my friend on a large map. In the handful of games we've played, I've consistently won the initial encounters, but then he regroups, techs up, and slaughters my forces.

Should I simply mass more of the core fleet (illums, carriers, flak, guardians) or should I start to focus on daestras more? (I'm using vanilla right now, looking to upgrade to entrenchment after I've maximized my vanilla experience).

If you're having trouble with a Vasari player... well... actually, what does his fleet look like/is composed of?

Guardians and Aeria's might and should help, but it would help us more if we knew what you're up against.

Tech all possible hull and armor upgrades. Fight at a friendly planet if possible where you have a spam of Repair Bays and a PJI or two. Perhaps throw in some Subjugators with Perseverance to heal your valuable caps faster if you can micro them. Make sure you have enough fighters to kill any bombers in a timely fashion. Im on the fence about guardians since they have such weak hulls but they can repulse assailants and save your caps.

Or just play as TEC, max hull and armor, build Hoshikos and set him up for a Missile Barrage.

Also remember to push your illuminators forward so that he can't focus fire easily and you can maximise the damage you're doing with the side-facing weapons. That is how illums and the likes are able to counter the more powerful direct-fire weapons like phase missiles.

Thanks for all the input, but continueing, (assume im totaly oblivious) what do I start building and researching at the start of a match the would help that would help me culturaly and offensively (along with a tad bit of econ so I can actualy get momentum)? Like do I want to go for harmony or hostility first before I touch the other side of the research tree? Sorry to seem difficult but any further info. is much appreciated.

Well to reach the first culture tech for Advent you need two Temples of Harmony, which leaves you rather weakened in the beginning if you're rushed or facing Vasari. On the other hand, if you go for two Hostility Temples you're leaving yourself woefully unprepared for the mid game since you have to spend extra resources for Volcanic/Ice planet colonisation rather than getting them right off the bat.

Personally I go for 1-1 hostility/harmony because it gives me the first tier upgrades for my ships (a must have for Advent since Disciples are weaker than their TEC/Vasari counterparts in the beginning) and allows me to go either way depending on the opposing player: another harmony temple for non-rush, hostility for quick tech to carriers if I am (since I generally have the bad luck to face Vasari players early on in the game and they get tier 1 LRMs).

the advent are not the kings of massing. Everything they make costs more than thier TEC counterpars in both recources  and supplies. But the Advent have the best shields and quite often do more damage. but i agree with the mass illums and carriers stratagy or if the enemy is massing strike craft make defence vessles

End of koda0's quote

His fleet contained a mix of all his available ships. 5 or 6 overseers, 4 subverters, at least 10 assailants, 6 skirmishers, 10-12 sentinels, and 5 transporters with nothing but fighters.

Now, a huge part of the problem, I realize, is that I let him outnumber me. I had about 6 aerias, 12 illums, 10-12 defense vessels, 4 guardians, 6 disciples, and a halcyon. Also, thinking back, he'd hit the planet with a kostura so my repair bays were off.

I guess my big question though is, assuming that I had an even amount of ships, what can I do about how quickly he kills a cap? It only took about 10 seconds to kill it, and with the overseers it didn't seem like I killed any of his assailants.
