Any idea when ObjectDock will fully support 64bit?

Getting kind of tired of seeing this feature not support on 64bit operating systems when I try to do stuff with ObjectDock. There has been no update for some time now and 64bit OS's are pretty common. Any clue on an update to fix things like start menu and task support? These features are reasons I was thinking of moving from my free rather nice dock (that looks alot like OD) without them there is almost no difference.

I was curious to know what issues your are having with OD with your 64-Bit OS?  I am also running a 64-Bit system and mine is working well.  I was curious not because I thought you were wrong but really because I hope I am not just getting lucky.  This is the version that is working well for me below. ;)

When I try to enable the start button support it adds the button but then when I try to use it I get "Showing the start menu from ObjectDock is not currently available for 64-bit versions of windows. This feature will be added in a future release" Same with system try icons. I am using v1.90 OD plus. Not a beta version. It looks like yours is newer mine says 535u. Can you let me know if those 2 options work for you? If they do i'll see if i can locate the beta.

The solution to this has been posted now over and over and over again in these forums.  So you can search there,

OR you could have just Google'd your question, which would have brought you to any one of the threads which answer the question

You could also just have pinged Stardock support as I assume they have read these forums again for this answer as well.

But I will post the solution again for ya!

Okay, I was able to get it to work thanks to a combination of what people have said above.

1) Uninstall OD+ 190.033 from within Impulse

2) Reboot

3a) You'll need to download and install SDC, Stardock Central from here http://sd.stardock.com/sdcentral_setup.exe

3b) Using SDC, install 190i[b].020 of ObjectDock Plus

4) Run OD+ from the Start menu etc (wouldn't run from SDC directly for me).

5) Be happy.  :)

I manually made sure "Enable MCP notification area support" and "Enable MCP SmartStartup" are CHECKED in the SDC/Tools/Settings/General tab, but I don't know if that is required.  I did this in SDC before rebooting above, just fyi.

I now have Start Button and System Tray on Zooming docks support under Vista 64 Ultimate.

I hope this helps and again, thank you to Wally3k, et al, for their helpful comments.

Thanks for the info. I kind of assumed Stardock monitored these forums so I was "pinging" them.

BTW for anyone else that has this issue all I had to do what download SDC and install over the installed version of OD.  After a reboot its working fine. It updates it to build 537 the download from impulse is 535. Thanks again for the info.. glad to see SDC is still around.  I hate impulse.

Please be aware that although you may get ObjectDock to work in this configuration it is not tested or supported in this environment. When ObjectDock 2.0 is released sometime later this year it will feature full 64bit compatibility.

Caveat noted.  But since no features have been added to OD since April of 2007, we won't be holding our breath.  :-"

Just out of interest, can you drag shortcuts to Objectdock using that beta version on Vista 64x? I'm drawing a blank searching for any posts reporting the same problem I'm having, if I try to drag new items onto the dock I get the Windows "no entry" icon and items don't add when dropped. Also dragging anything to the recycle bin on the bar gives a "recycle bin is full" error (it isn't full).

Also, any of you running the beta version on 64x, how are you dealing with the UAC nags? I've tried using the taskscheduler to start OD with elevated permissions when I boot up, which gets me past the first UAC nag, but then I get a second identical nag calling ObjectDock.exe with an additional -deelevate parameter. (Running without elevation gets 2 UAC nags).

I'm not ruling out the possibility that the drag to dock problem is UAC related too... perhaps I should go try with it off.

Sorry for the slight thread hijack, but it seemed related and a decent place to catch others using OD on Vista 64x.

NVM. It appears it is all UAC related. Can I presume you guys are running with UAC off or is there some other workaround I'm missing?

Super

Stardock programmers are working very well : OD+ is a shareware and today no final release full 64 bit compatible : only a discreet shadowed beta which involves nobody.

Official full compatible 64 bit will be released when Windows 8 will be published in 2014 :-"

OD freeware users who are on Vista 64 must wait for longtime ? They can't enjoy the beta version of OD+

If being human can be considered a joke, you're absolutely right.

They're not trying to explain every tiny little thing that goes wrong like most other companies. They tend to not say anything at all though, which is kind of bad, but I don't hold that against them because I do that too sometimes. Which in a way proves my point...

I LOVE stardock, they do business the HUMAN way, flawed as it may be. I don't know any other company (online) that gives me the feel of actually interacting with real people, as if I would be in a local store. I really don't care if the way they do business suck or not. I support Stardock all the way for that single reason, unless they suddenly turn into stupid asshats, which I feel is VERY unlikely.

As much of joke as someone complaining about something that is free?

Impulse says ObjectDock Plus Last Updated 10/24/2008

Stardock Central says ObjectDock Plus 1.90i[b].020 Last Updated 10/5/2007

Your saying that the Stardock Central version from 07 is newer than the Impulse 08 version? Does that mean the datestamp is wrong?

The date stamp in Impulse does not accurately reflect upon the version that is available. That date is simply when that particular version was made available on Impulse because there were troubles with the systray support on 64bit machines with the version that was previously available.

It pays to be a very patient person. Good things come to those who wait as the saying goes and don't say anything about waiting too long. This is my two cents.

Except that it's already been TWO YEARS since this flagship product has had ANY feature additions.

Everything since April 2007 has been bug fixes, with MANY major bugs still outstanding.  So, don't get your hopes up.  *_*

This is correct.  You should use Impulse now.

As I am sure you have guessed given it is now December 2009, ObjectDock 2.0 will not be released this year.
