Creating ship extra's

Originally I thought the ability to create our own ship componants in ToA ment we could design and create new "Extras".

Obviously not the case and I havent found any discussions on how to do this.  Is it possible?  Can a 3D CAD program be used?

I have no idea if 3D CAD is xapable of this sort of thing. To have any chance of success, you generally need a pricy graphics program and some sort of formal education on how to use it. This is really Zyxpsilon's dept., not mine. PM him is you need any help.

You're probably confusing Starbase components with modeling "extra" ship parts (with or without features that modify what effects they have on gameplay).

Sadly, the local library has been down since January here & I-Mod recent access is unstable enough that you won't be able to experience it before any gets fixed.

In X-Worlds 06-A, there are numerous components (Magnetic & Dimensional Jump engines, enhanced spying modules, etc) which are basicly an indirect tackling of TA editors (lacking documentations while i have yet again a rare opportunity to challenge staff & coders into "supplying" more complete modding solutions for their users, btw) but for Dark Avatar only.

3d-CADding is more of a external gimmick for creating a DirectX item for later use... AFAIC, only 3dStudioMax or Wings3d should provide a partially compatible basic mesh. But that's not the end of anybody's task since the GC2 format is complex enough to be almost exclusive to SD developpers (unless they share the Dummie points scale rating or the UV mapping "options", kinda technical but stilll necessary reference for proper independant designs)  if only by the HardPoints or texturing schemas.

I made some, i don't see why anyone shouldn't be able to - also.

You might have troubles with Kryo to earn permissions, but if General Pants uploaded his great collection of Jewels here - everyone has the same rights too.

Thanks for the replys!

Looks like producing new ship parts is more involved than I care to get at this time, plus the possibility of stepping on developpers toes.  I do enjoy the ship designing part of the game.  I love the "Immense" map we now have and would love to see an "Immense" selection of ship parts as well. :D

Maybe the SD developers could be talked into taking submitted drawings of new ship parts for GC3 in the form of a 3view and isometric.

umm...

Maybe those magnificent, intelligent, kindhearted folk at StarDock who develop these fantastic games we just absolutly love, would consent to receiving our input and ideas for new ship parts so they can provide a greater plethora of options to the users, and appreciaters of their diligent, hard work.

Those guys look at these forums from time to time right?
