I don't dare venture online :(

Ok so I have had this game for a few days now I have played through a couple of SP tournaments on hardmode and done some on easy just to get a bit of a grip on things.

So I figured I would hop online and see what games were up for me to cut my teeth on. Now I live in New Zealand which puts me pretty much in the middle of no where, this also means that I don't get the best pings to the states, normally between 200-400 depending on where in the states im connecting to, which I have found playable with other rts style games like SupCom, Sins and DoW2.

So far all I have seen in the custom game lobby is USA LOW PING ONLY, or PRO ONLY NO NOOBS. Is Demigod that intenseive that you need super low latency in order to be able to play does it stutter a lot and have rubberband abilities? Also how the heck are there pros at this game already? Are they the elitest crowed who migrated across from DoTA? As far as I am aware everyone is pretty much a noob until a least 6+ months after a games release.

Anyway does this get better at other times of the day or am I doomed trawling through this garbage for a game I have a chance of not getting kicked out of cos my ping isnt low enough or im not pro enough?

Low/high ping is misunderstood by many. In a RTS game like Demigod it does not really matter if its 50-200+ as long as the packets gets from one to the other.

Ive even played with some from australia that had a ping of 400+ with almost no lag.

I say, go play and have some MP fun, and dont let it bother you what others may think. All it comes down to, are you having fun? :)

I've played lag-free games with people that had 600-700 ping. But the issue is convincing people. If they see a number above 200 they usually flip.

Don't worry about lag.  It's the people who get spikes that wreck games.  As long as your ping is stable things will be fine.  I'd say go for pantheon or skirmish games if you're getting kicked from customs.  You might have to play with AIs for a few matches but after that it'll put you with people.

Lol yup, people go awire at the sight of 200ms. This game can be played/handled with a 350 to 400 ping and zero lag.

Wish people would realize this.

I would think they are referring to Beta testers, who have been playing for a good year now.

Actually, because Demigod differs from other RTS games, it does matter.  Demigod has timed abilities and effects that matter greatly on the attack speed as well as response speed.  For example, a Rooks hammer smash which is already slow, but if the person's response speed is slowed due to their ping, then it might not ever hit a target before they move out of the range of it.

Well ultimately it's up to the host whether he allows you to stay or nawt, but yeah unless you don't have PacketLoss way to high, you should do just fine with 400-500ish.

Yeah, given the number of interrupts, latency does matter somewhat.

As far as I know, though, command latency is always the same in game-time.  If lag gets bad, all that happens is that the game slows down to ensure that everyone stays in sync.

This is VERY annoying, I know for a fact that I (Aussie) can happily play with people with upto 450-500 ping with no lag at all. But you try to convice people when you join their games of this and they just boot your ass out. I got into a 3v3 at about 250 ping last night and was kicked... wut?

A idea to stardock. Take the 'ping' out of custom games and replace with a colour for conenction if you have under 200 make it green under 400 make it yellow and over 400 make it red.

Too many fps players seem to think a ping about 30 is going to ruin their game.

OP add me to friends, I'll have a game with you tonight ^_^

How will this help? Most people only kick for pings over 200 anyway, so they will just start kicking everyone that is not green. Atleast now they might let you stay if you ping just above 200.

make it 400 then :P OR advertise the fact that a yellow colour will play fine. This isn't a technical issue it's people being daft and not listening.

You can try and play Panthenon.  It is a rotten waste of time and you won't be out of place if you lag everyone to death and drop game before loading.
