would I get a year of updates when I purchase Windowblinds

When my Friend buys Windowblinds would he get a year of updates like I do with objectdesktop?

I looked all over and didn't see anything.

Thanks in advance

Yes, he will. But, only for WindowBlinds...not Stardock's other software. Tell him to download Impulse also, for the download of WindowBlinds and for updating it.

And welcome! :sun:

When you buy one app stand alone the updates for it are until the next major release version. So your friend would get all 6.x updates but updates end when 7.x comes out.

Cavan1, you might be correct in this. When I click on the link in the WB to the faq's, that question is answered for Object Desktop, but not for WB stand alone.

Where did you find that specific information?

I don't think that it is stated anywhere but I have seen Stardock staff post it many times in the forums.

Doc,that question was answered by Neil Banfield.

"On standalone products updates are provided until the next major release.

So had you purchased WB 5.0 back in November 2005 then you would have got 5.01, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4, 5.5 as free updates but not 6.0 which would have required an upgrade fee of $15 when it came out in late 2007.

Purchases within a certain amount of time of a new major release would get an upgrade to the new major release free.

If instead you purchase it as part of ObjectDesktop (49.95 or 69.95) then DrJHBL is correct about it being one years worth of updates."

This sums it up nicely I'd say...

Q: Do I have to pay for updates?

A: Generally not. The Object Desktop Network includes 12 months of updates and new components. Minor version updates to other products (like WindowBlinds) are made available to registered users at no charge. For instance, if you purchased WindowBlinds 1.0 you would have had access to over 6 updates at no charge. Only major version changes (like moving from WindowBlinds 1.x to WindowBlinds 2.0) will have an upgrade charge.

Wiz info is good too, it's not as readily available though (unless you visit the forum :P).

I just found it after going to the sales faq's. Cavan1 is in fact correct, and that's a good thing to learn. I have OD Ultimate and assumed the renewal policy is the same.

It is not, in fact. Thanks for asking a great question. Wish a Spreadsheet type comparison page with the apps, renewals, packages etc. and policies were around.

Sorry I took so long to get back to this....was eating breakfast.

*I think your friend should reconsider the stand alone purchase as WindoBlinds 7 is in the works....and get ODNT.

Wow that was a fast response, I really appreciate it. I have ODNT myself and renew it every year, I'll see if I can talk him into it sice windowblinds 7 is coming out soon.

Thanks again
