Update WB wiped out saved Windowblinds

I just purchased OD and I updated windowblinds and downloaded all of the other software. When I was done I tried to use it and windowblinds was not updated to 6.4. I went to Impulse and clicked on the verify installation for each application and several of them said that they were not installed properly and to get an update. These included Widowblinds, deskscapes, iconpackager, and I do believe object dock. Well after I thought I fixed it I restarted my computer I went to the verify instalation again and it said it was installed correctly. I started windowblinds and all of my blinds are gone that I had downloaded. Same for the iconpackager too. The installation keeps on saying it is not installed correctly now. I will do the update then restart nd they are not there. I am running windows Vista.

I don't think you loost the skins. Do a fresh install and perhaps WB will then be looking at the right folder in which your skins are kept.

Try opening WB configuration then on the main page where it says "Skin Options" click on the little arrow and select Rebuild List.

Well I tried to rebuild the list and a new install and now I not only don't have my downloaded blinds but it won't update from 6.3. That is what has taken me so long to get back here I have been trying to update the fresh install. It either freezes or tells me I have to restart and I do that and when I get back to Impulse the download had been paused and it won't resume. Then when i go to verify installation it says it is installed correctly but in the system info in windowblinds it says 6.3. When I hightlight Windowblinds in Impulse down in the bottom where the info is about the application it says 6.4. This is the system info from Windows Blinds

To avoid wasting anymore time I suggest you wait until tomorrow and see what Support has to say.

Perhaps one of the kind mods can move this to the support section?

i understand that you tried a new install, but did you run a clean up program like CCleaner after you uninstalled and then did you reboot before doing the new install and then reboot one more time before trying WBs?

It sounds like you have some left over files that are messing things up.  If that doesn't work you could try turn off your A/V and security programs and try one more time.  Some of these programs can cause downloading problems.  Remember to turn them back on.  Come back and let us know if any of this works.

I didn't use a clean up program I will try that and if that doesn't work I guess I will wait until tomorrow like Night Train said. Thanks for the help given so far.

Well after uninstalling, then using clean up program and then reinstalling WB about 15-20 times (no exageration) I got it to update to 6.4. However, my downloaded blinds still are not there even after I rebuild the list. I did a search on my computer for a couple of the blinds that I could remember the names of and I didn't turn up anything. Thanks again for the help.

The WindowBlinds skins do get save in different places between XP and Vista.  Try downloading a new skin, open WB configuration and see if it doesn't load it correctly.  If it's not there then try the rebuild list option.

Glad to see that you got the current version to donload.

I always save a copy of each skin I download in a separate folder for easy access, just in case something like this were to ever happen. This also came in handy when I got a new computer a few months back. :)

BJ...did you ever backup your system to an external drive? If you did, you might be able to retrieve all those skins from there.

I never did find any of my blinds. I redownloaded some of the same ones and it never prompted to override or anything. Some I still had the Zip files that was in my unzipped flder but if it was a WBA file it was gone but I just downloaded more. Thank you to all that helped.

@ DrJBHL I found the dir. of your screen and all my skins that I downloaded are there. But under WindowsBlinds I see only tree skins. The version I use is here below. I use Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit version. Every time I try to load a wallpaper WindowsBlinds closes. The problem is unknown. I have given WindowsBlinds administrator rights. What went wrong with the update?

In the WB config, select the skin options and "Rebuild List"

I have found the problem. I had to change something in the compatability mode and now it works.
