Problem downloading Fences

I downloaded Fences on 2 of my computers. I'm trying to download it on my 3rd now. I can get as far as installing it, but that's it. When I try to open the program, I can hear an error message sound, except there's no error message on my screen, so I can't tell what the problem is.  Anyone experience this before?

Thanks,

Desire`

What operating system are you using?  Also, make sure you have disabled any anti-virus/anti-spyware applications during installation.

Good questions, I.D. Also, if the third computer is Vista OS, make sure you have administrator privileges. :sun:

System Requirements
Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7
On Vista and Windows 7, both 32bit
and 64bit versions are supported.

I'm having the same problem and I can't find a fix anywhere. Shame, as it seems like a really usefull and cool program.  Is there usually a response to problems like this or shall I just give up?

I am also having this problem, but I see the error it pops up..

When I begin to install it, it gives this error:

I'm not sure why this is happening. I also redownloaded a new install file and tried that.

I am currently running Windows XP Pro 32bit, not running any virus software/firewall or spyware programs at this time.

Any help would be appreciated

I have an issue with the lastest Fences update in Impulse.  While the process begins Ok with archiving files and etc, when the download is about to commence I get a "File Not found" error and the download fails.

I have tried uninstalling-reinstalling but this fails to resolve the issue... the clean install produces the same error.  I have resorted to using the free edition from C-Net until the issue has a fix, so it's not a real biggie but thought it worth a mention.

It looks like there wasa sync problem between some servers.  All should be well now.

Well I got past the "File Not Found" issue but Fences wouldn't install after download: "File larger than expected" was the error message.

I did a reset data but the issue persisted, so I uninstalled completely and restarted the download... still no go, download completed but same error and installation failed.  What I had to do was uninstall again and delete the Fences archive in Impulse backups for the download to commence installing... reason: I had been using the free version from C-Net because Impulse kept returning the 'file not found' error.

Although Impulse detected that I had Fences installed, the "file larger than expected" error suggests that perhaps the two versions are of a different size, and thus the Impulse update would not install over the C-Net version.

Thought I'd mention it and post the fix to help others who may be experiencing the same issue. :)

Out of curiosity, did you use Download and Archive to make this, or did you archive an existing install?

i have seen this issue many times...i have 17 pcs i use my stardock account on ( not recommended, youll be constantly emailing stardock) but i do it only on my personal systems to test all the software accross a wide range of hardware and windows versions.... many of my clients see my system and want it on theirs.... i then have them buy a subscription, or at least the programs they want ( do i get a bonus for refferals? ive sold maybe 20 - 30 OD subscriptions) but i have seen the issues described above.... some solutions i know work...

Games for windows live - - - i have seen this cause errors more than once.... make sure it does not load in the background at startup, only when you play games, this also includes the office and windows live add-ins.

windows vista -  if you use tweak vista, set everything back to default, install other programs, then reset your settings in tweak vista.

some third party programs and messengers on lower resource systems can cause errors in installation too.

some p2p and torrent programs have caused a few issues too....

hope this is of some help

I did'nt know that a "new" and probably a for purchase version of Fences existed. My Impulse makes no mention of an update. Searching Stardock I found a brief reference to "Fences Pro FeaturePack" but no further information. I have Fences v.096.1650 BETA which I just discovered is a community preview and due to expire after August 31st, 2009. Is the "new" Fences part of a Stardock package for purchase?

There will always be a free version of Fences  . . but a Plus version is forthcoming too.  Take a look at ObjectDock and ObjectDock+ for an idea of how it works.

As I could not download Fences via Impulse for a while I downloaded a free copy from C-net to try it out.  I later discovered that Impulse recognised it was installed and had archived it, given my preference, I suppose, of download, archive then install.
