Will Demigod sell 100k copies in 3 weeks

Sins of a solar empire sold 100,000 in 3 weeks retail only.  Can Demigod match it or even beat it?

Frogboy said about 18,000 legit customers connect on day 1 (Connected means just load the game, they don't have to be playing multiplayer, single player, or even have an impulse account).

Connected at one specific time yes. The amount of sold games were probably a lot higher.

Dont think so, no enough hipe about it on the international gaming forums
Many think its a bad game due to its ranking on the reviews
And as you may know, many gamers buying games only based on the ranks
I myself do it in that way too, the diffrance with Demigod is that i liked the idea it based on, so i ignored the ranks.

@demigod3k- Studies have proven that most gamers dont buy games based on reviews. Many walk into stores and pick ones that they have heard about or think looks cool. No one knew anything about sins of a solar empire, and it did quite well. Demigod is getting much better reviews now and  1up is going to re review it, so really those 2 bad reviews wont stop it too badly I think.

The problem with the 2 bad or mediocre reviews is that IGN and Gamespot is the most popular.  Like 10x more popular than the other website that gave good reviews to Demigod.

You are right though, the reviews shouldn't not effect it on the road to 100k.  But it will affect it somewhat, maybe 10% lost, who knows.  Reviews also effect new franchises like demigod more than Madden.  So they would have sold 1million copies this year, now it's just 900k or something.

Using metacritic as a guide Demigod is looking better and better all the time!

Hm.. If 1up, gamespot, and ign re-review to at least 8, then demigod would have nearly a 9/10. o_O  It would be in the top 5..  Those 3 all scored it down from the connectivity issues but gave good reviews if you read the text instead of the scores.

I think a lot of people buy the game to just play it offline also - even if it's just skirmish. Doesn't even get sold in Australia until early next month.

Yeah, just about every reviewer that gave it a bad score only ranked it so low because of the huge connectivity issues, some ranked it low because of no Campaign though.

Where can I read about these studies?

Initially I don't think Demigod will sell that well. The rocky launch has likely hurt the initial sales of the game, but given time I think the game will sell pretty well... However, it will take some serious work to rebuild the image of the game after some of the complaints. Right now I don't think the game is doing poorly, but gamers tend to remember these sorts of things and it will take some convincing to get them back.

Basically, Stardock and GPG will need to put in some extra effort to make sure that people know when the game is fixed. Interviews with Gamespot and IGN are decent starts. Sure, they aren't great sites, but plenty of gamers seem to frequent them and listen to what they have to say.

Umm I couldn't give you a real link but I saw that on IGN or something a year or two ago.

Also @ moocow- WTH are you trying to say? Find something better to do than troll about steam. yes counterstrike and Whatnot have MASSIVE player bases and very well established communities, of course they're going to be bigger than demigods launch day base.

just goes to show you a few bad apples can spoil a perfectly good pie.

I think Demigod will match or beat past record of selling 100k in 3 weeks.  The reason is the Stardock fanbase has grown since last year.

Also it is easier to market Demigod then Sins.  We'll just have to wait next week for the first week npd results.

At this point it is basically up to Frog and the gang to fix shit up and then start really doing what they want to do (at least what I think they would want to do...) - make the game more balanced, fun to play, and making it great for esports with the addition to team pantheon/skirmishes. Above all I think it is up to them to put out some sick ass DLC (I know the game just came out but I am already excited to see what new DGs are going to be added ;) to increase the hype of the game, if they achieve this, I think it Demigod will have great sales.

Announcements of major free content patches often sell games well.  Has been working great for Valve and Tripwire(red orchestra, steam published game) and it worked for UT3.  It sold better after the free weekend that coincided with it's first big "bonus pack" than it did at launch.

It's console games where the first months sales mean everything.

It would be nice if IGN and Gamespot would re-review it, but who reviews things twice? Heh.

I'd like to see penny arcade do a comic about it personally, I think it's a pretty interesting event the way the piracy has affected it.  For people who care about the industry I can see this being historical, even.

Nothing but contempt for gamespot after their lil fiasco a few years ago.

IGN is a bit better but i generally trust game-revolution.

Im kinda curious what kinda score they will give Demigod ...

Personally it gets an 8.5 from me ..fix the multiplayer and itll jump a full point ....

Its a game that you can jump right into ..raise some serious hell and finish up quickly ...with my schedule thats very important.
