No Tutorial???

No Tutorial???

The DG rule book is really skimpy; but as I finished it (in 10 minutes), I thought "oh well, I'm sure they explain it fully in the tutorial".  Could'nt find any tutorial, so I thought "The tutorial must be included in the campain, teaching you as you go".  I could'nt find any campain though either 8C .  Yikes.  So I start to play a game, and see the mydrid of upgrades and items, I figure "I'll just pause the game, and slowly Tool-Tip everything, and that will give me an idea how to play".  But when you pause the game, you can only see the menu screen.  YEEESH!   So, what I finally had to do is start a Lan game, and just not play at all, and try to figure out everything from the tool-tips that way.  That helped some.

Just like Sins, this game REALLY could have used a campian (more so, since the replay value with 8 different DGs would be great too boot).  But not even a tutorial?  That's really throwing people in the deep end.  I'm pretty concered about showing my casual gaming friends DG, as they have a hard enough time getting the hang of a new game after a manual read & multiple tutorial runs. . .

Thanks counterfeit, I had no idea there was a speed setting button (just another thing that should have been put in the manual or tutorial, haha).  That WILL help me teach my friends the game.

Did'nt work.  Mabe I'm doing it wrong, but the "-" key does nothing; no key I can find slows or speeds up the game.  And F10 does nothing either.

I would suggest spending time playing against the computer A.I. Even at the default difficulty, you have time to learn about items/armor, favor, and upgrading the fortress. Admittedly, I haven't played against any human opponents yet, but I am sure I will be in no time at all.

You mean default time not difficulty right? And I haven't played humans either. I'm hoping my sister comes in this weekend so we can play.

F10 does nothing? That brings up the menu. And hopefully you hit the minus key on the very top right of the keyboard in the number pad area. What country are you from? Maybe your scancodes are different.

Just another note about changing game speeds:  skirmish by default uses fixed time, speed so you have to change it to adjustable in the settings first.  Tournament seems to default to the adjustable though.

Thanks, I just tired it, yes, it worked!  You have to go into the game options (BEFORE you start a game, it won't show durring) and change it to "adjustable".  Now, we were able to slow the game down to a crawl, and take our time reading all the items/spells.  Still, for those who "hate tutorials", you just don't do them then; they are there for all the other people who count on them.  The more easily accesable you make DG, the less likely people are to get confused or frustrated and give up on the game.

Well the thing is, how do you make a tutorial for Demigod? Each and every demigod is special and unique. You'd either have to do it for one or all and if you do one, people will only learn on that one demigod assassin or general or both. It seems complicated and tedious when all you need to know is click click click and highlight to read. The manual would be enough to say that, but also general gaming knowledge as well which hopefully anyone buying the game has. If not, :(.

I'm not saying the game couldn't use a tutorial, but I agree with some of what Saturn was saying.  The only thing the tutorial could really teach is how to move (by clicking your mouse, which is retarded if people can't figure that out) and possibly teach about the item shop and artifact shop.  If anyone reading this is having a difficult time playing the game, just start a single player tournament mode and play it on easy.  Try clicking on all the buildings in your starting area, some of them give you options to purchase items or upgrade your war efforts.

Perhaps if some of us really want a tutorial we can work on creating an itemized list on here to help new comers out.  But it really isn't a hard game to learn, and it's more rewarding when you figure things out on your own :P

oh ok I just noticed that someone has already done that.  Check out the thread up top called Demigod: the basics   it was created by Orlean Knight.  gives some good information for newcomers

The first time I played I kept trying to figure out how to control and spawn the creep waves... A person completely new to this type of gameplay often need some sort of basic tutorial or they will get frustrated and give up... those of you with elitist attitudes in this thread need to grow up.

The game could do with a tutorial however the problem arising

Where would you start? I was wanting to try make a tutorial but I just dont have the time to take such a task on

That said my friend decided today to play the game for the first time. With no help from me (Until she died twice then suddenly she changed her mind)

She spent 2 minutes fumbling until I slowed the game down for her to decide what items to buy, then ran up, captured a flag and attacking a tower until she died

Sometimes incompetence is the issue ^^
