What Should I Upgrade

To get the best performance?

I've noticed my SoaSE runs sluggishly in large battles or late into the game when I have a lot of trade routes running.

I'm going to be getting a little cash back from the Government, so I figure I might as well upgrade a component of my PC.

Given my specs, what should I upgrade and to what?

Dell Inspiron 530S (with various non-standard components)
2 processors running - Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2180 @ 2.00GHz Performance Rated at 4.49 GHz
2.0 GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 2400 (ATI Radeon Graphics Processor

processor. you want as high as possible speed per core; sins can only really use one.

do you know about computers at all?

-----------------------

Definitely double your ram, that's about a 40$ upgrade.

Also, You could get a much better video card for less than $100

The processor is the last thing that needs upgrading.

oh uh..duh...yes. per core. as in as much speed as possible on one core. RAM helps, but only up to a point(sins can only use 2GB). and i'd like to know if the OP is using a 32-bit or 64-bit OS.

and trust me, a 2 GHz core is not up to late game sins entirely without a performance hit.(assuming you are talking about running around 2000 supply fleets)

is that ATI Radeon HD 2400?

i'd say its the last thing to upgrade, unless you really need the high detail settings on.

Huh du that is what I have and I have no problems with performance hits.

I do have 4 gigs of ram and a better graphix card

and yes, everything at max settings and modded 3000 supply fleet pts

Well, it depends on your os, i heard that xp can't handle anything pass 4? or are you running vista (boo)?

if you are running xp see upgrading to 3, even 1gb can help alot

Another way is to enlarge your swap so you can run and then your computer will auto dump all of the other memory into the swap freeing up a bit more ram for you. and the for the swap it uses your hd, so you don't really need to increase the number of ram you have, cheapest way possible
