Customizing the UI

hey guys just wanted to start a topic about the game files and how one might go about learning to edit the .DDS files to customize the UI and such.  My friend plays on low resolution and so the spellbar and everything are much larger than mine at 1920x1200.  I would love to get into customizing the UI if anyone has any ideas

I have no clue how to or have the knowledge about any of this... But something that would make me smile would be a just a countdown timer in the spell bar. I don't know why... But that caster timer reminds me of Quartz from WoW(the antichrist of video games) and I'm so used to seeing a timer in a cast bar.
