Error -2005530516 (DirectX failed to initialize.)

So far I am very disapointed with Deskscapes, and Stardock in general, actually.

I tried to get direct techinical support for this issue, but their terrible support system asks me to choose a  support department out of a list of nothing, then yells at me when I choose the only thing I can, nothing. Also the lack of an advanced search feature on these forums makes it extremely hard to find what you're looking for. Which is also why I must apologise if this issue has already been addressed.

So this is my last hope of fixing my problem. Basically, I have no trouble until I come out of a fullscreen program. There is a black screen for a  few seconds before the image reverts to whatever image I had set there before. Then I get this wondrous error;

Error?

Which oddly enough has a typo in it, yet another reason for me to look down upon Stardock. That is not how you spell Initialize.

So does anyone on here have any idea what my problem is and also if there is any way to get in contact with this *expletive here* company?!

One that is not a Stardock program error.

Two it looks like you have corrupted files being used for some other program.

I would run a command to try and repair these if it can be repaired.

from a command prompt type in sfc scannow and press enter. Or just use the run feature to execute the process...If this shows nothing or it fails to repair - then you have files installed for directx that are not good. Most for sure a conflict with a file which is not assigned properly or is corrupted by being mis-allocated; improper file allocation.

What are you using for graphics and how much memory does your graphics have. Also from what I see at your website - what is your user experience for the vista computer you are using. I also see desktop earth in one desktop screenshot - so it would seem deskscapes has worked for you in the past. What happened and can you explain yourself a bit further.

To solve this problem we do not need to look for whom to blame for whatever reason. Only what is the problem and find it to resolve it and go on with life.

In my first post I stated; "Basically, I have no trouble until I come out of a fullscreen program."

Deskscapes works perfectly until I run a fullscreen program (generally a game). Then upon closing that program I get this error, I also know two other people who use Deskscapes, they both also get this error. I figure that it always does this for everyone, but it doesn't hurt to ask. I've attched a copy of my DxDiag.

--Oop. My fault. Forgot to attach the DxDiag. Applogies. It can be found here; http://www.vorix.net/misc/DxDiag.txt

Resource Protection found no issues.

My experience with this computer is very in depth. I've been using Vista for a while, I actually prefer XP, but this system is optimized for Vista. However, this is my main PC. Generally if there's a problem, I know about it. What of my site causes you to question my experience?

ReikoGrey -

If you haven't done so already, please email support@stardock.com and start a trouble ticket. They will be able to assist you.

These forums are mainly user supported forums where members try their best to assist others who are having issues with their software.  The best way to get 'official' help is to email support directly either using the link above (reply #1) or email support@stardock.com.

If you have already emailed support and received a trouble ticket number then please post it here and I will make sure support has this post for reference.

Alright, I have filled out the form on the contact us page. Thanks for the link to that. I'll continue to watch this thread and also update if anything new comes from the support team.

--The ticket ID recieved was AGV-622765, however I included a reference to the post myself.

Nothing at all - was just wondering what if any why I see this. So now you have explained in a better detail what is happening. But you still have not answered all my questions as to what you are using for graphics and such. I believe this may be the problem. That and along with what are your specs for the computer we are speaking of here.

Again I say it is not a Stardock program problem. But don't take me wrong I've seen some of this with other people and it was more as I've said. Their system and not having enough to make eveything run as it should. Sure your games run. But at what cost to your system and such. Do you have any way of seeing what is going on while such is running; besides a log file.

Anyway I still say it is a allocation problem and it is caused by another program you use. Not a Stardock program.

generally a game

Is it the same game(s) all the time, or is it just any game?

All of this imformation is in my DxDiag.txt file, hence my posing of it. See Reply #3. My computer is more than capable of running DeskScapes flawlessly.

Generally, I only play games over Steam. So it's a multipltude of Steam started games. A quick list would be;

Audiosurf

Counter-Strike: Source

Crazy Machines 2

Day of Defeat: Source

Eets

Gmod

Gish

HL series

I-Fluid

L4D

Lost: Via Domus

Portal

TF2

The Ship

Trials 2

Vample: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

Hidden: Source

Mass Effect

Oblivion

Etc, etc.

However I have experianced this issue with one or two games that were not run though Steam.

Although earlier today as a control I ran Oblivion standalone (not through the steam client,) and the effect was different. This time in the stead of the usual error, the content displayed, but was frozen. It wasn't a dynamic dream, just a movie. It seemed to play through, then stopped where it would normally loop.

I hope this information helps.
