Forum Update - April 2, 2009

Minor update, but important

The forums have been updated again today with a minor change.  If a user edits his/her post, there will now be a "View Edits" button.  Clicking this button will show a history of that reply/post, along with highlights (red = removed text, green = added text).

If you do not see the button or clicking the button does nothing, please do a "hard refresh" by holding Ctrl and pressing F5.  This will clear your cache and force a download of the new image and javascript file.

Hopefully this will reduce the amount of griefers who go back and edit all of their posts.

Thanks Bebi, but unfortunatley there is nothing in there. Whether i right click or not. No options for spell check or any other.

Any more help on the issue please?

Edit - Ahh found it. Ty. I'd delete my comment but with view edits my stupidity is forever there for you to marvel.

;P

What about the broom, would it clean up my act, too?

Which reminds me... how come both buttons for linking remain shaded & unavailable to me unless i copy/paste an entire URL and then, select it to activate any?

FP9 or FP10 flaws? Cuz, i have both on Vista and SeaMonkey reports the plugins as being active.

Strange.

To be quite honest, because it's ass backwards and dumb.

Just highlight the selected text you wish to link and they appear.

Duh- that's what i must do already as written up in my previous reply. Are you asleep? ;P

Once i select the URL i just pasted or typed in, to be clearer!

But Bebi is absolutely right... within Mozilla i COULD access these directly. And now, i can't.

Welcome to Vista & Shockwave linkage to IE7 or more, where optimal technology is actually more messy than previous versions of Windows. Backward & dumb has got a whole new meaning since last summer, in fact. Latest being, I-Mod-Productions.com unavailable. AFAIC, no hidden services or Firewall settings are interfering with their particular ISP.

No, no. You said you copy and paste the entire url and then select it. It may not be what your after, i'm not sure that the way it was is possible now but you can select any text and link it.

Type any word highlight it then paste the url into the link box that appears after you click link.

Thats what i meant as opposed to having to type the entire url. Not what you are after but i was taking your literal meaning of what you wrote.

I was being picky i guess..... :P

The way it used to be handle in FF has long since been deemed "unwanted" by SD i guess.

I've noticed the term "trolls" on here. This isn't something I've seen on any of the other forums I hang out at. What is it? (And more importantly, are I one?)

An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum or chat room, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion

Wow, a correction of a correction on ZubaZeez.....I personally love Zu's typos.. Keeps me on my toes (funny that, when I am sitting when I read them ;) ) Besides, typos happen all the time. Everyone know's I have had my fair sahre of them!

I mostly have typos when words involve letters which are found on one side of the keyboard then another... Such as: right right left left as in the word just. It feels so much easier to go right left right left and alternate sides...

I'm in continual "untypoing" mode actually since i've long lost my 60 words/minute skill when surgeries screwed up 2 fingers of my left hand and the Annular of the right twice & over. A genetic flaw called "Depuytren" tendons inflammation that bends precious dexterity tools inward palms.

In fact, i've been wearing an orthopedic tricky pressure device to the left ever since Nov'11 last year... sadly, therapy hasn't tweaked it enough to return it to some normality. Next, amputation. Only me can convince that doctor on Monday April'20 not to. I might have to beg like hell.

Wish me luck.

The custom control for the editor we use is actually a 3rd party control.  There is an update available but I believe they dropped IE6 support in the update.  Since too many people still use IE6 on the forums, we can't simply drop support too.  This latest update may provide spell checker support (either built in or through Firefox), but I'm not too sure.  I'll do some research and see what I can do though.  Switching the control to something new entirely is not an option for the moment.

I also hate the way links work in the editor.  Copy/pasted URL's should be detected automatically and set to be links.  The latest update may fix this as well.

Oh please please please (I had to install textlink extension so I could just doubleclick those plain text links). And update the current link insertion button to actually work NOT backwards would be great.
