You're Banned!: The Forum Game

Okay, here's what you do for this game: You have to "ban" the person who posted above you for an outrageous, silly, or funny reason. Got it?

Banned for not banning him for being a braggart. Bad Scoutdog!

Banned because my GPA is an astounding 3.3/4

I KNOW, RIGHT? AMAZING

Banned because I am teaching a friend to play HALO.

banned because the best I ever did was 3.0. Not for a lack of not trying.

Banned because the best thing I ever did was finish my bachelor's at a college that used narrative evaluations, not number or letter grades. A decent education is one of those unquantifiable things Scoutdog doesn't believe in.

banned because they did try to quantify my education, but I could care less. The BA hasn't brought me squat so far.

Banned because that's unfortunately the logical result of the grade inflation problem.

If you do grades, a C should be respectable if you earn it from a decent school. But these days, so many students assume that enrolling and getting fees paid justifies a C and the higher grades are for folks who actually work at their studies. There are twits in the world who are starting to talk about MA degrees as the new BA, which is horrifying when you think about how poorly most high schools prepare most of their graduates.

Shame that your BA didn't do anything for your interior life. A college education is supposed to make you a lifelong learner who can enjoy the arts and pop culture more because you are a critical thinker with some basic knowledge of civilization.

Banned because once again, you make sense.

Banned because I was doing that before I had a BA. I got the BA for supposed earning power. You know, that little lie they tell you about going to college, working hard, staying on with a company and retiring? Yeah, it's bull. So here I am with the BA (woo fucking hoo) and working for about $30,000 a year at the age of 30 years because companies figure they can get someone with 5+ years of experience for the same I'm earning rather than help a new generation of workers gain some much needed clout. Then again, I can't blame just them. After all, it's the workers that decided they would rather save 10 cents on a light bulb by letting their jobs become outsourced (yes, you vote with your wallet) and end up replacing it about fifty times in their lifetime rather than go with the slightly more expensive, domestically produced bulb which you might have to buy a total of two before you die. To make up for this growing divide in cost, the domestic laborers decided, rather than campaign against such moves, to produce an inferior quality product in hopes of bringing down the cost or at least making themselves feel better about screwing over their neighbors for nickel and dimeing them into poverty.

Yeah, you're banned.

Banned because with a few more hardware implants, your naked brain could have made that a picture as well as a 'valid' ban.

@Draak: That $30K you mention is the earning power of a BA. Look at the stats for folks with high school or less, and you might feel a bit better, or at least less offended. Re the rest of your rant, well, I'm not going to be a fan of global free trade until the deals come with requirements for reciprocity of labor and environmental standards. Those cheaper light bulbs don't just harm our local labor markets--they are wrecking environments and exploiting workers where those bulbs get produced.

Banned because I never said it was kosher, just that it sounded typical. At the moment, "6 years into the position" is more like three years because the last three or four years have meant no progress for most of us who weren't already rich.

Plus, I referenced stats, which are a big fuzzy mess easily used to spin lies and distractions. Sounds like Ryat has useful real-world skills, maybe plumbing or wiring or welding. But in aggregate, folks with high school diplomas or less have far lower lifetime earnings than the aggregate of folks with post-secondary degrees.

So Ryat is a lucky outlier and I'm an unlucky outlier, what with having an MA, working in a job that requires it, and still getting ready to file for the Earned Income Tax Credit for the second year in a row.
