Bad Install, Bad Version, or Normal Behavior?

Opening tabs in the same window not working when using Integrated Tabs

I recently had to reinstall Windows twice because of a string of bad luck.  1) NVME failure (7 years old so I guess I should have expected it).  2) Bad Radeon video driver update completely ruined Windows TV detection and I could no longer access my monitor's (TV's) volume levels.

The first time I had to do a reinstall, Groupy 2 worked fine.  I am currently using version 2.3.1.  Just before having to do the second reinstall, I believe I discovered the ability to integrate tabs into Windows Explorer (title bar).  I could be wrong... perhaps it was after the second install I discovered this but it isn't working as expected.  Pretty sure I got it working normally before having to reinstall the second time (but not entirely sure).    Not sure what version was active with that first reinstall but I can no longer open new tabs in the same windows no matter WHAT settings I use.  It ALWAYS opens a new tab in a new window.  With "normal" tabs (above the title bar) it works fine.  Either I can't find the right setting or something is very wrong.  Given that it works fine when I use "normal" Groupy tabs, I am thinking that latter.

This is a nightmare.  After playing around with the settings I have discovered two MORE problems.  1)  Opening "normal" tabs (above the title bar) now does the same thing (ALWAYS opens new tabs in a new window).  2) When I had "Automatically group identical windows together unless they are already in another group" checked (just to experiment), Firefox stopped working (with tabs above the title bar).  It would group the windows together and when I took them apart, the entire Firefox window would go grey with no ability to do anything.  I had to quit firefox and uncheck that setting to get it to work normally.  This behavior is entirely unacceptable so I will have to uninstall the program until I get help.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. That is strange. Please try, if you have reinstall it, uninstall it again, reboot immediately (important), redownload latest version available in your account product download page: https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products. Install it, reboot immediately again. important. Retest it and report back.

If the issue still appear, we need more details.

  1. You on Windows 10 or 11? Also need to know which version and OS Build number. Use Winver.exe to get these numbers.
  2. Your first issue was with Window Explorer, yes? or something else? Please elaborate with some screenshots or video.

In your reply #1 you have different issues, yes? Perhaps, we will deal with those issues once we resolve your first issue.

Thank you,

I am a bit hesitant to do anything right now.  I just encountered a brand new problem that may or may not be a Stardock issue: after uninstalling, it required a reboot.  With that reboot I lost access to my user account (login) because my User drive (which is on a separate partition) became unmapped, something which has NEVER happened before.  (For most of my experience with windows I have refused to have any user files on my C: drive because of how often Windows must be reinstalled).  I have absolutely no idea why and your product was the only thing I removed... so it is hard to believe it was anything else, especially since I have never uninstalled Groupy before (except by reinstalling Windows from scratch).  I had to go into an emergency command prompt mode and restore the drive mapping so my User drive would work properly.

I use Windows 10.  My first issue was with Windows explorer.  I don't want other programs to open in the same group so I rarely use Groupy for other programs (except Calculator on occasion).  Only Windows explorer since I often have multiple folders open at a time.

Hello,

Most Stardock software products need to be installed on the main Windows drive (the OS drive). Programs such as Groupy must reside there because they integrate closely with the Windows shell.

For this reason, it’s also important to reboot your system immediately after installation to ensure everything initializes correctly.

If you’re using Windows 10 Pro, you can run a quick test in Windows Sandbox. This allows you to check whether the issue appears on a clean environment before committing to a full fresh install. It’s a useful way to confirm if the problem is system‑specific. Refer here for Guide on Groupy Sandbox: https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1417052161/Testing+Groupy+in+Sandbox

Just a suggestion.
