Okay, here's what you do for this game: You have to "ban" the person who posted above you for an outrageous, silly, or funny reason. Got it?

Uhm....a Pita-Gyro cant cost $6.99. You must be mistaken or something :|

Banned for, I dont understand how the cost of living can affect the price of food and drinks. Or is that the same thing?

Banned because the "cost of living" is the net cost of food, water, electricity, and so forth: all the stuff the people who calculate the cost of living think you need to live.

Economics is fun. The more I get into it, the more I learn I could really screw people over in a lot of different and amusing ways...

Ok, something is just wrong here. I am guessing that maybe a Pita-Gyro is different in the US, than in Greece. Can you post a pic or something? Or just describe it.

Either its bigger, or it has some french fries along with it, because here in Greece it costs 2 Euros :|

Banned for wanting pictures and descriptions.

Well it is the US so portions are typically bigger, that's why our country has weight issues.  By me in Orange County, CA the prices are a little cheaper then that.  Depending on if you go to a chain or privately owned place, you can get them for a few dollars a plate with a side, but then again there is a healthy sized Greek population here who'd be pissed at paying so much for food.  BTW, if you watch the weekly mailer ads here, you can by 2 liter bottles of Coke for 79 - 99 cents each depending on which store is holding the sale, and cheeseburgers from McD's *yuck* are around 89 cents, sometimes there's a two for one special going on.  Personally I prefer In-N-Out.  Love to order off the secret menu.  Get my double double and fries both done animal style.  Damn it, I'm hungry now.  I know where I'm going for breakfast in 5 hours.

Also something to consider, having been to Greece myself, there's actually two prices for stuff on their menus.  There's the tourist price and the Greek price.  If you look and speak Greek (or are at least there with a local), you pay less, if not, you pay more.  Happens a lot in Mexico too, fortunately I grew up speaking Spanish so homey don't play that down there.  One of those handy little travel tips no one ever mentions.

So prices in US vary a lot, state by state, huh? :|

Thats true. You cant imagine how much this happens here in Greece. They practically steal tourists money. And not only with food, but at everything, from hotels and rental cars, to souvenirs and basic goods.

Yeah, thats Greece. We suck :typo:

Banned for getting an education.

Yes things vary by state.  The first factor is the cost it takes to ship or grow stuff there.  Then you have to add in the cost of laborers or cooks or whatever to get you what it is you're buying...  Most importantly, depending on the item, there's a federal tax, state tax, county tax and city tax, all which vary, so like for me, if I buy stuff near my home I pay 8.75% (used to only be 7.25% a couple years ago, damned democrats) and if I drive over to where I grew up in Los Angeles County only 10 minutes away, it's 9.75%, then there's a few cities within LA County that have their tax rate at 10.25% so they pay even a little more for everything...

:omg:

All these taxes and it adds up to only 8-10% depending on the state and city you live. Whoa!

Here in Greece we have only 1 tax. Tax of Additional Value, which is 23%. Yeah, the government is like "suck it bitch!", and the politicians are like "yeah you pay taxes, while we are doing our typical tax evasion. Thanks, I can now buy a new estate and a brand new car, thanks to you working slaves  ".

Yeah, thats Greece. We suck :typo:

Agreed, banned for taxes.

No no no no.....  That's just the sales tax for when you buy things, that's not talking about the income tax we all pay every year, FICA tax (social security) medicare, and all the other BS that get's yanked out of our paychecks that run somewhere in the neighborhood of 38-45% of your earnings going to places other then your bank account.  Then there's property taxes if you own a place, use taxes on top of your utility bills, a whole host of little bullshit things added to cell phone bills in the form of taxes.  After all is said and done, you lose at least half of your paycheck to taxes if you're lucky.  Two-thirds if you're not.

I know man. I was talking about the sales tax, which is 23% here. The comment about politicians who evade taxes, was about income tax, that we pay every year :P

But you were talking about federal tax, state tax, county tax and city tax that all together add up to the tax you pay when you buy stuff. All together are between 8-10%, and we pay 23% for 1 tax.

Woah? The cost of living in a 'developed country'. Honestly here we have the Very Attractive Tax or VAT-15%

Income tax and NIS payments. NIS (National Insurance Scheme)

Whats the minimum you guys have to make to be 'rewarded' with income tax.

ps. There is atleast one good tax in my opnion though. Reconstruction

Ironically, the Constitution originally banned income tax of any form. That eventually got "fixed" by Democrats/Republicans during, I believe, WWII as an emergency taxation. Which we are still technically in that emergency which continued on into the Cold War and now the War on Terrorism.

Banned because I think I just pwned the SAT.

I don't think the Constitution said anything about income taxes one way or the other until after the amendment in WW2. I know it's not conditional to wars, nominal or real, being fought at the time, however.

Banned because we've been taxed for much longer than since WWII.

The 16th Amendment

Under the Constitution, Congress could impose direct taxes only if they were levied in proportion to each State's population. Thus, when a flat rate Federal income tax was enacted in 1894, it was quickly challenged and in 1895 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional because it was a direct tax not apportioned according to the population of each state.

By 1913, 36 States had ratified the 16th Amendment to the Constitution. In October, Congress passed a new income tax law with rates beginning at 1 percent and rising to 7 percent for taxpayers with income in excess of $500,000. Less than 1 percent of the population paid income tax at the time. Form 1040 was introduced as the standard tax reporting form and, though changed in many ways over the years, remains in use today.
