Testers: Post Final Demigod Game Reviews Here

Testers: Post Final Demigod Game Reviews Here

I saw a comment somewhere that there were no impressions of the game anywhere on the forums.  So seeing as we likely won't see alot of meaningful updates (outside of netcode) between now and release but we likely will see a bunch of curious people drawn in by previews and videos:

Give us your review of Demigod, not just as a Beta tester but also as a gamer.  What do you think?

I've posted mine below.

Edit:  Just to clarify - this thread is looking for reviews of the game, not the Beta process or one aspect that needs work.  If you were writing for RPS what would you say about Demigod?

If you want to give feedback on the beta process (not the game) I have made a post here.

For those who would care to continue the "Which DG is most OP" debate I've made a post over here.

Everyone else - keep the reviews coming!

Kr5trel, you should throw up an average of the reviews at release for fun. \o/

Good idea |-)

I'll produce an final average of every review that has a totalled number so feel free to add one in if you haven't already.

Here, I'll post an overview and average of the reviews posted so far.  I've tried to make an estimate of the reviewer's score when one wasn't given.

I've also calculated, Rottentomatoes-style, a percentage of reviews that are positive.  Given the nature of the reviews given by the testers - and also considering the way video-game critics tend to do it - I'll count 7.5 or higher as a positive review.  In my experience, it's tough to characterize anything lower than 7.5 as a "positive" review for a video game.

A.Z. - 6/10
Piett2k - 6/10
Stratobot - 9/10
Grapefruit - 8.5/10
tazzx - 8.5/10
PossiblyImpossible - 7.5/10
Ke5trel - 8/10
Blitz64 - 9/10
Mercury - 8/10
Frogboy - 9/10
an_sa - 7/10
cowbuttzex - 6/10
ralsar - 9/10
nokthra - 6/10
Sevenix - 8.5/10
DroopyTheDog - 7/10
Gerry - 5/10
Xan - 8/10
Exile - 7/10
Xirconus - 9/10
DakinyKilla - 5/10

Overall average: 7.48 / 10

(21 reviews total, 157 / 210 total score)

Percentage of reviews positive: 57%

(12 out of 21 reviews positive)

If I've made any mistakes, or mischaracterized a review, let me know.  I'll update when more reviews are posted.

That's great PI - alot more in depth than I could have done, thanks

Keep the reviews coming and let's see if we can't get that score a bit higher before release ;)

Edit: So I've seen a few comments in this thread that seem to be more about the overall Beta process and less about the game.  I've made a thread here where you can give your impressions of the process.  Thanks

Or a bit lower *_*
Personally I think people are being a little bit to nice to demigod in their reviews....

Missed the last few patches of Final Beta but i don't think they would make much difference.

Graphics: 10/10. One of the best looking games i have seen in a while, GPG's wonderful engine and scroll zoom works wonders.

Sound: 7/10. Most of the sound and voice overs in the game were decent. I had to play Regulas muted though because he's voice was so irritating.

Gameplay:
- Demigods: 4/10. Yes the good old point of only 8 Demigods, i still think it is absurd that the game only has 8. Some of the Demigods are quite fun to play, mostly Torch Bearer and Rook because they had alot of character to their abilities, unlike QoP who contained too many boring abilities. Assassin's and Generals? Different play styles? Complete rubbish. This game has very little variation to it.

- Skill Trees: 6/10. The citidel tree was a nice addition to the gameplay and offered some variety in play style. The Demigod's skill trees were mostly uninspired and dull. I think Torchy's tree was the only Demigod that i slightly considered going a different viable build but even still without Shatter it was a lost cause. With only 8 Demigod's i fail to see how each Demigod does not have an amazing set of unique and interesting skills and a very well thought out skill tree.

- Items: 5/10. It seemed that you can get the exact same items for any Demigod and it will be quite a viable strategy no matter who you are playing. Of course that isn't very smart but the point is that there are very few specific items to get per class (or per demigod as there are not enough to form classes). There is no specific item sets for Assassins and Generals.

- General Gameplay: 6/10. The pace of the game is very slow. Most of the time you are crawling your way around the map. It feels like you and your enemy are both trying to run on their knee's when there is a chase happening, which forces you to get an active movement item or be nerfed.

- Connection: 6/10. From when i was playing the Connection rate was about 60%, thus 6 out of 10.

Overall Gameplay: 5/10

Final Score: 6/10 The game looks great and has some nice concepts to it, but it seems that some of these nice concepts of the game are still on the drawing board and are not yet implemented into the Final release of the game (Generals, decent items, deeper skill trees). I predict that Official game reviews of Demigod will get around 8 out of 10 due to the amazing presentation of the game and that it fits the casual gaming community... but for someone who enjoys a fast paced, challenging and exciting PvP experience, this is clearly not the game for me.

This is not a biased review against the game it's just my honest opinion. I pre-ordered with high hopes for this game based on what i read in the build up to the Beta testing but it just fell flat and did nothing to improve on the experience from many months ago. Demigod's most redeeming quality is it's amazing graphics but from someone who still enjoys playing DOS games, graphics do not mean much if the Gameplay is not exciting or involving enough to keep coming back to. The game dies off too quickly with its lack of variety and lack of characters to use. It truly is just a casual game, and i personally want to play something with alot more depth to it.
