Just interested in oppinions....

So I discovered this game just recently on ign and am pretty interested. I lurked around on the forums and (apologize if I was oblivious and missed it) I didn't see any actual beta impressions. I don't want to spend the money to preorder without hearing some feedback... I was wondering if you guys would be opposed to try to give an objective view on what you think of the game so far. I realize its a beta and the current build more likely than not isn't release quality and I'm fine with that. So on that note... can I hear some reviews?

I like it.  Learning curve is logrithmic so a few games and you will have 90% of the game figured out but mastering that last 10% takes a long time.

If you don't like playing in a team this might not be the game for you.  I imagine there will be a siazable 1v1 crowd but don't expect the game to be balanced around that.

It's good but I would recommend waiting for perhaps some kind of demo or at least some in depth reviews from various sources (don't worry so much about number ratings, just the reviews) and then decide for yourself.  Don't hurry to buy the game yet.  You can ask for basic impressions here on these forums but remember that most of the people here already preordered it and most of the people here have a strong opinion one way or the other.  The specific things that will make some people love this game and others hate it have to be covered in an in depth review, and there will be numerous of those written upon the game's release.

If you enjoy action RPGs and RTS you will probably enjoy this game, but there's no guarantee (there never is).  Best rule when buying a game is not to rush into getting it.

Its great. A solid game wherein you feel like you wield a good deal of power, with a very unique cast of playable characters to choose from. But there are some things to watch.

Chief amongst these is connectivity. Will Impulse match Steam in ease of use and function? Demigod`s Pantheon play mode is a great idea that requires absolutely remarkable networking backbones to be everything the developers intend it to be. At this stage it may be fair to say such utility is yet unproven.

Once a Demigod or faction gets rolling, it can be very difficult to turn the tables. Perhaps more an issue with balancing of Item cost & abilities, which of course is still ongoing. (And normal...)

The singleplayer content will consist of some type of Pantheon contest ala the multiplayer. Nothing of that experience has specifically been meted out to the beta people, so what precisely that features I cannot say.

More Demigods and maps upon which to play have been promised as free downloadable content, with more on the way if sales are good. Such assets will greatly extend the span of the game.

Hope that helps.

One more question. does the game support drop in drop out gaming. Like if a player leaves will he be taken over by a cpu controlled unit and not completely mess up his team? And likewise if this is supported, can a player take control over a cpu controlled unit in a vs match?

This is something that isn't done well in most RTS games and would almost sell me instantly when coupled with my initial interest.

Can that cpu controlled player then be taken over by a real player?

Likely not, but it would probably be a far better idea than using CPU's. They did that in Dawn of War 2..the only time it worked was when your teammate didn't even have the basic concepts of gameplay down and was spending half an hour in base choosing what unit to build and not capping anything.

Still, even then you were only slightly less screwed when a CPU took over. They are so easy to beat and exploit that against equally good players you will almost always lose. Granted it's hard controlling two players but I'd do it over having terrible A.I. do it anything time of the day.

I actually wasn't thinking of an already in game player. Like I mean somebody else joining a game in progress and taking over a computer controlled unit. This probably wouldn't apply to ranked but it would be a cool feature for non ranked games.

I went ahead and bit the bullet. I'm bored and SD hasn't let me down yet, lol. If anybody is down for a game I wouldn't mind a quick rundown on how things go. I guess I'm kind of in limbo though, I ordered and it just sends me an email saying that my card hasn't been charged.... how long does this take, I'm guessing I can't start dling the beta until after I get charged?

Unfortunately the Beta is over now, so you can't play until release which is 2 weeks from now.  They apply pre-orders in waves, for beta1, beta2, and so on.  There are no more waves before launch now, so you won't get charged until April 14th, and you also won't get to play until then.  Sorry.
