ObjectDock 2.0 is in developement, but I have no given time frame.  :)

My version is almost 2 years old (OD+ v1.90.537u)...

You guys at stardock could let us know something about the new features and functionalitys.

Just to get some motivation for the unknown time to wait for them.
;P

Unfortunately there is no real information to report at this time. It is being worked on but at this point there is no solid timeframe as to when it will be available other than later this year. No updates for the current version are being pushed in favor of getting 2.0 ready to go. It is expected that in the next several months, information about ObjectDock 2.0 will be released. Keep in mind however that this is tentative and could change.

Also keep in mind that the new task bar in Windows 7 looks like it will provide a lot of capability making it more like the Mac OS X dock with some added bells and whistles. So it is entirely possible that once Windows 7 releases most people will no longer want/use OD.

trust me im using windows 7 and its start bar is worse that the standard vista one. Object dock has saved me from using it. However its not very stable :(

Id love to see a new version asap!

Gibbz....OD and OD+ are stable with XP and Vista. You are using a Beta (? which build) and expecting that OD will be stable, and I think that's an unreasonable expectation.

Stardock produces software, but doesn't have the manpower to keep up with Betas...and I don't think they should waste their time trying.

When it (7) comes out in public as "the finished product", I'm sure they'll have produced any changes needed.

Also, there's no real certainty that this is the reason for the "instability" you see. Try it on XP/Vista (hope you have another OS Partitioned) to see if it's problems exist there too. If so, there might be other explanations for the problems you're seeing, and solving them might eliminate your problems with it in 7.

That hasn't been my experience with Vista64! New install and sometimes, for whatever reason, one or more docks will not unhide themselves and the only solition is to unload it and reload it. Gets to be annoying. No pattern that I can see when it happens either. No beta, just the latest release. So I'm also looking forward to 2.0's release! :)

The problem I am having with Objectdock & Vista 64 is that the dock will freeze (not open). I will have to end the process and restart.

There is no pattern to this....I've had it go 2-3 days and work fine and have had it freeze after an hour.

I am running the latest version.

There no real proof there is a 2.0 in the works and Stardock is very very slow at fixing bugs if they do at all. I doubt there will be a new version for years to come.

I will be switching to rocketdock when windows 7 comes out at least they actually work on their dock. Funny how a free dock get updated a lot and a paid one hardly ever. Not like Stardock doesn't have tech people everything else gets updated but OD. OD must be like Simcity they want to fade it away. I was a sucker for buying OD Plus it seems. If Microsoft can make Windows evvery 3 years or so surely Stardock could have made a new version of OD by now.

Where's the real proof for that statement then?

I bet OD is being killed for Fences.

killed? you mean it's like Achmed the Dead Terrorist? would Walter then be Fences?  OD hasn't been killed. i'd be willing to bet the developer is busy on another project at the moment. maybe the project is Fences, maybe not. even if it is, OD hasn't been killed. besides, OD works fine for me on both Vista 64 and Win7 64 as it is currently.

I just guessing why they havn't updated OD. Hey just because people that has Stardock under their name says in a couple months they don't know anything been saying that for 2 years. Look around the forums. This is what makes me think it is dead. Google Objectdock 2.0 you will see a handful of torrent sites claiming to have the beta but they are paid sites.

Guys, this is the perfect example of what happens when a company has no real competition. It 'relaxes' and updates get fewer and far between. Also, as far as I know, Jeff is being spread thin over Fences and the Dell dock.

This is also the perfect example on why betting on freeware is betting on the wrong horse. It's ALWAYS the same story: freeware authors either get tired of their pet projects OR real life (and the need we ALL have to make a living) gets in the way. ALL the freeware docks are currently dead or in limbo. MobyDock, Y'z Dock, RocketDock, RK Launcher (my apologies if I forgot any).

There was a new freeware dock in development, XWindows dock, which actually featured something 'new': icon reflections (but please keep in mind that the first dock to bring this into the Windows world was the NeXuS dock in Winstep Xtreme). Well, guess what? The author of the XWindows dock just said 'Now I haven't any time to continue working at the dock. Thanks.'. Typical.

So, what is there to learn here? You tell me, I would love to hear your views on this. |-)

LobsangMack, I use Vista Ultimate 64-Bit and have no issues.  However, for those that do (and this is a fix for the start menu and taskbar functionality of it, not your issue) you can try this out.  I am quoting this information as Excalpius found it and brought it to our attention in a different thread.  I feel this may help you:

(This is a cut up version of his post to get to the point)

1) Uninstall OD+ 190.033 from within Impulse

2) Reboot

3) Using SDC, install 190i[b].020

4) Run OD+ from the Start menu etc (wouldn't run from SDC directly for me).

5) Be happy.

I manually made sure "Enable MCP notification area support" and "Enable MCP SmartStartup" are CHECKED in the SDC/Tools/Settings/General tab, but I don't know if that is required.  I did this in SDC before rebooting above, just fyi.

I now have Start Button and System Tray on Zooming docks support under Vista 64 Ultimate.

End of quote

And a post from the same thread by CarGuy1:

So you don't have to hunt for a link to it, you can download SDC from here.
End of quote

Hope this helps your issues friend, and helps this thread along a bit.

I have this problem too every once and a while, only I am running Windows XP 32 bit (home edition).  All I have to do to fix it is close OD and start it back up, but it still gets really annoying.

I forgot about Winstep If Stardock doeesn't update soon I think I will buy it. For $40 you get basicly their version of windows blinds, od etc all in one and it a lifetime upgrade. Same package would cost you $70 a year from stardock.

Personally, I think it's time for some updates...

So much Stardock software is now outdated.

Stardock is the best at windows customization, but freeware is actually creating quite a buzz, and independent developers often check threads, then update.

And while ObjectDock is the most complete dock, XWindowsDock has caught my attention - Genie minimizing windows, superior stacks, auto icon reflection. These features in OD would be great.

RightClick (could SD do even more with this? I hope so)

DesktopX (more advanced script editor would be nice - I recently tried out VB.NET Express 08 & the script editor there was great) (could we have script controls & plugins better integrated? i.e. transparency for DX player sliders, search boxes that actually disappear when off parent bounds?)

LogonStudio (I would love some further features added here - is it possible to change layout abit too?)

Well, in the service of accuracy, I did a little research and discovered that one has to go back to the 1.59/1.6 beta version to see ANY new functionality added to ObjectDock...and that was in April of 2007.   So, yes, ObjectDock has seen nothing but bug fixes (and there are many outstanding bugs) for TWO YEARS now.  :'(

I hope the one year of free updates is extended for OD+ users as it will quickly pass for me with no updates.

Randall30 and Wizard1956: I'm lucky (and I do mean that) I have both. They do different things and they do them differently.

While what Jorge says is true about freeware stuff and developers, I want to believe Stardock knows it has a winner in OD/OD+ and that Jeff is stretched thin.

Why not let SD take care of its business. I'm sure they're going to fix things for the 64 bit crowd.

I for one know that I'm not gonna abandon SD software (Iwill pick and choose, though) and I certainly wont abandon Winstep which I love dearly.

I'm hoping WebGizmos (and others) continue to revitalize the Winstep Gallery, and that Jorge solves some stuff pertaining to Winstep. I anxiously await the Winstep/Workshelf/NextStar/Nexus GUI user control interface change.

Great things are coming. It's a shame if folks lose patience. :sun:
