Trying to install dreams from masterbaron (man...great work) and it's telling me I don't have the right codec. What do I need to play them in XP?

Thanks guys.

dreams are either .wmv(which xp should already have)and .mpg(mpeg2)

I had an open ticket on deskscapes, and Stardock emailed me back and said that Deskscapes WILL NOT work on XP at all. I tried everything myself and no luck so I called them and they told me that, so I gave up, so if you keep trying I thought you should know this, bummer huh?

there is a really handy codec tool that you may want to try, its' name is Cole2k Media - Codec Pack., it is a full pack of many kinds of codecs, for video and sound., you should find it at download.com ;)

I believe most of TheMasterBaron's dreams are MPEG-2, so you would need an MPEG-2 codec to play them.  A good way to test is to try an play an MPEG-2 encoded video (most DVDs) through Windows Media Player and see if it works.

I'm surprised at Stardock telling you that Deskscapes doesn't work on XP.

I'm on Xp and have been enjoying it for months.

VLC has the smallest foot print & if it can't play it nothing will

k-lite codec pack has mpc incorporated into it (media player classic)should be like vlc & play most if it can't you may need to go into the settings to select file type or decoder pack, default settings should work tho,on initial install it will give you option of wmp(windows media player) or mpc as default GUI

xbmc (xbox media centre) for windows uses mpc

k-lite & vlc get updated quite regularly

Manicgorgo: When did you e-mail support?  Can you PM me a ticket number if you still have it?  There was a time when DeskScapes was Windows Vista only.

If you can help me out I would appreciate it. And Stardock emailed me back and apologized, they didn't mean to ay that, and they are trying to fix the problem, but if you are running Xp maybe you can point me in the right direction. I use XP service pk3, I have a 512 mb nvidia GE force 7600 video 8x card. And they say that's good enough but I keep getting this eror message,,,,,,AGP card detected, sorry it is not compatible with Deskscapes at this time".........So let me know if you can help

Hi Shirley, I talkes with Dave from Stardock and he told me they didn't mean that, so they are trying to figure this out, I believe Curt has been emailing me with possible fixes, but no luck yet... You have any thoughts
