Starbase Rush

Anyone got a strat to counter this? I know Carriers best way to deal with em but faced 3 games where the players have gotten carriers and SB up early and crushed me not sure what to do to counter. (vasari SB's btw)

...whaaaat? How do they crush you with the SB?  It dies before it ever finishes building in my gravity well.  If they rush for it let them,  they are a defense,  maybe offense for vasari if they have something to keep you busy with but a rush with one...eh.

its possible to tech up to Assault Deployment relatively quickly and then go and try to build a starbase in a really inconvenient spot. it relies entirely on surprise value and and exploiting an opponent who has not adequately defended their territory.

 

thats the solution, by the way. there's no trick to beating it other than being a bit more attentive and judicious about how secure your territory is. a couple of hangar defenses at important worlds goes a long way. so does keeping a small or medium sized reserve fleet on call in the deeper parts of your territory. you don't want to have to recall your main fleet every time your enemy harasses you a little bit. the answer is better defense.

In this case im not talking about later-early game or midgame. Im talking about teching into 2 Wep labs right off the bat(this is Quickstart btw) and pushing a cap, support fleet and a Colony Frig into my 2nd-3rd world or even slppping past to my homeworld and planting it there. No time really for defenses while I expand to my 3rd world, one person slipped a SB into my homeworld with 4 assailants and his cap + started streaming carriers at me once it had built like wtf how do u defend against that lol. Guess its all about stoppign what your doing and trying to hit it before it gets ina  position to be built.

SB aren't cheap, so you should have some ships of your own to deal with the SB while it is building.  The real trouble is when someone is being fed by allies to rush you with Starbases when you barely have any ships.  I find that to be a bummer.
