Repair platforms getting a feel for their true worth

My question for everyone today is how much is a repair platform (ie the defensive structure researched with 1 military lab) worth in a defense?

What I am looking for is an answer that will help me judge whether my forces can win an engagement that involves repair platforms. So an answer could be an amount of ships, eg 1 repair platform is worth 4 assailants, or it could be a force multiplier, ie each repair platform is the equivalent of having 10 percent additional forces in a sector.

Lastly do repair platforms become more worthwhile the more they are stacked at a planet? Ie does 1 repair platform have minimal effect, while stacking 3 means your ships can take on an enemy fleet of double the size?

Um... I don't think you can make such a comparison. Repair platforms can repair just about anything. Perhaps they will be able to focus in repairing your experienced capship to keep it standing long enough for help to arrive, or help your not-fully-upgraded starbase hold off an enemy fleet by itself as your fleet is engaged elsewhere. How many assailants is that worth?

IMO, you should build at least two in any defended planet. In choke points and heavy defenses, three or even four is better. Micro them to repair specific units during a fight, if you can.

They are definately worth it (can't tell you a number though - sorry).  The TEC platforms are the best, followed by Advent and then Vasari.  Thing is, while you should build multiple overlapping ones, I don't believe the effect stacks.  I say this because when I look at my Vasari ship sitting on repair, it always says "15 hp/sec" even if it is sitting on 3 platforms.

when you build overlapping ones... its not for a stacking effect, its so that one repair base can repair the other.

The reason to have multiple repair bays is so that:

  1. Your repair bays can be repaired
  2. You can repair multiple targets at once
  3. Cover a larger area
  4. You can keep repairing during a larger battle

Repair bays need Anti-Matter.  If you have more repair bays, you have more Anti-Matter at your disposal.

The more repair bays you have, the longer your defenses will hold out. You can't really compare repair bays vs more ships as more ships will do more DPS, but repair bays will lower the enemies DPS. You may win faster with more ships, but you will probably have more casualties yourself, which in turn means you then need to replace your losses, which equals more time to build and more resource cost. With repair bays,  you should take fewer losses, plus if its fleet on fleet you will be able to counter quicker as the ships will be patched up and ready to go alot sooner then with no repair.
