I cheated on TEC last night

I slept with Vasari

I always play TEC.  I just love'em.  The Kol and Marsa are big-ole-pimps, and I really dig the support cap, with its shield eraser ability.  I just love zapping the shields of a fully upgradded starbase and then pounding it with structure cruisers.

I was in the forums the other day and saw that the Vasari super weapon allows you to temporarily jump gate to the planet you just blasted.  And I thought, I gotta try that.  With the new AI setting up nice defensive front lines, being able to basically fire a jump gate deep behind enemy lines is strategic gold.

So last night, I played them for the first time.  And the 4 player FFA map generated perfectly for this little test.  The left AI was actually trapped behind the pirate base!  The only way into the system for them was through the pirate base.  So, throughout the game, I made it a point to make sure the pirates held them on that side of the map.  After about 6 pirate raids, the AI actually attacked the pirate base!  I've never seen the AI do that before.  But, it was actually cool, because I had a super weapon by then.  So I blasted a little asteroid next to their homeworld...waited until it hit..then jump gated there from the other side of the map...and for some reason...once I took their homeworld...they surrendered???  Even thought they had 2 crystal, 2 metal, and 3 terran planets left??

I think the Entrenchment AI sometimes surrenders when it realises the situation is hopeless, such as "War Fleet Bacon Maker" appearing behind its defensive lines. And I've seen an AI get the hump with pirates in original sins, although they never capture the base.

Oddly enough the AI doesn't seem to employ the super weapons... it could be really vicious if it did.

Before we start the game, we should have the option to choose a Victory conditions, for example:

Victory 1: Groundpounder (Destroy all enemy planets)

Victory 2: Supremacy (Destroy all Structures/Ships/Planets)

Victory 3: Hopeless (AI surrenders if it knows it can't win)

IC needs to do this, I really hate spending that much time building my empire and out of nowhere I win just because I destroyed a few enemy ships/planets, it sucks!!!

Also, the AI should retreat more often, last night I saw an ally AI sacrifice a level 6 Kol & a level 4 Sova for no good reason, they were up against an entire enemy fleet, and he never retreated (for god sake the planet wasn't even his). Also at one point, an enemy fleet attacked my starbase with a large fleet, my starbase destroyed ALL enemy ships, even a Marza level 7 & another Marza level 5, all frigates/cruisers were destroyed and both Capital Ships were HEAVILY damaged, but they fought to the death. My starbase still had at least 60% hull.

Anyway I think they should really change the way the AI works (if a Capital ship hull drops below 30%, they should retreat to lick their wounds).

BTW, you cheated on TEC last night with Vasari, thats not very nice, I hope Advent doen't know because you're gonna be in trouble, wait a minute, can Advent read your mind?

Yes.  It would be nice if IC would post the decision tree the AI is following.  It would at least offer some idea as what the AI is 'thinking' when it surrenders (and potentially generate a stronger AI as we find the blind alleys it can get itself in to).

Setting Victory conditions would also be an excellent move.

Yeah, the AI has balls like the size of asteroids or something.  In that above referenced game.  I asked an ally AI to pick off the last planet of another AI that we both ganged up on.    All of sudden I start hearing...."Capital ship destroyed.....Capital ship destroyed...".  I didnt scout it out before I asked them to take it, cuz it was just an asteroid.  And the ally AI had 4 caps with these lvls(Kol:6, Marza:6, Carrier:4, Carrier:3) and about 25 frigates.   Well, turns out, they jumped in, right smack in front of a fully upgraded TEC starbase with turret support.  I was thinking...why didnt they just turn around and jump right back out.  Nope, they stayed til the last frigate was blown to bits.

Since they just got wiped out, and the last enemy AI surrendered...I just quit because...it was just another super weapon shot and I'd be knocking at their homeworld as well.
