Compatibility with xp service pack 2

I notice on the system requirements for deskScapes that SP3 is needed....is this really the case as i would like to try this app but i really don't wont to install SP3 as it caused me problems last time and i had to do a complete reinstall of XP.

I didn't think SP3 made any major changes to xp apart from a rollup of previous updates so shouldn't DeskScapes be compatable with an up to date SP2 installation??

Here's the thing uglyspirit.  Deskscapes or Service pack?

Your choice is not to install SP3 only to have your OS's security system annoy you for updates.

When you think about it, as long as your system is connected to the internet, there is no choice with service packs.  Not only do they keep your system security current, its also a way to ensure the authenticity of your OS for continued support.

Without it, you're eventually dead in the water and if you've noticed, Microsoft is cracking down hard.

I'm running deskscapes on XP SP3 without any issues at all.  May I suggest a registry cleaner and registry defragmenter such as Tune-up Utilities for after you install the sevice pack, it sounds like your system needs some aggressive maintenance.

Best of luck to you...

CP.

You have XP and have no prblems? Can I ask what video card you use?  I have a 7600 gs agp 8x NVIDIA PNY technologies card and I get the same mesage all the time............AGP card detected, Deskscape 2.5 not compatible with your video card at this time please click cancel.........

No matter what I do I can't get any dream to work.

Truth be told I'm only using an on-board 64 mb Intel Graphic Adapter which came with my system Maniacgorgo.

Dreams runs really smooth, but none of this stuff works right if you don't keep up with the maintenance.

And sometimes the maintenance has to be aggressive, such as Registry Defragmenting.  There aren't too many apps that does this.

All of my Stardock programs run flawlessly on XP, but I also feel that the major attribution for this wonderfuly care-free experience is constituted most by my constant system up-keep.  A system is suppose to fly with or without this stuff, right?

Get your XP system up to optimum performance, then set your bling up.  Problems are no longer an issue once you take charge!

Best of luck to you...

From what I understand 4X AGP will not work but 8X AGP will IF you update to the drivers released in December.

UglySpirit...I have the same 7600 gs agp 8x NVIDIA and deskscapes just doesn't work that well....even with updated drivers. It was a nice thought and I'm sure a lot of work went into devoloping it....but I've only been able to get the very basic deskscapes to run...none of the good ones.

I'm curious...have you tried my 2 latest dreams?

Folding   Fools Gold

I encoded them at a really low bitrate and was curious how they would do in this situation. With the bitrate I used, the CPU usage is the lowest I've been able to accomplish. If you can play HD video clip, these should do well.

Can you give one a test run and PM me your results? If they run better this way, I can try to find a sweet spot for XP users.

Thanks

At the moment I couldn't even try any...video card took a dirt nap...waiting for a replacement to arrive. But I uninstalled it awhile ago after failing to get any decent dreams to work and kept getting that annoying popup "AGP card detected, Deskscape 2.5 not compatible with your video card at this time please click cancel."
