Favor Points, whats the point

or should there be more expensive items

ok so ive been playing this game for a couple of hours now and i have 1205 favor points, i can buy every favor item in the game and i have only played 5 out of 8 demigods(mostly just once to test them out, and the rest just Torchy and a couple of rook games)

i think that favor items should either be buffed and cost more favor points

or

there should be a lot more favor items that cost more.

i feel like im done with the game(beta) now that i can buy everything

anyone agree? or disagree? and please explain

There will eventually be more favor items that are significantly more expensive and have much better bonuses.  You can think of the current favor items as level-1 items :D

Not sure I think you are right on this gnats, which is close to a first.  I think Brad and GPG don't envision it this way.  Put simply, they are persistent items but should not be overpowering.  If these are too overpowering they quickly make the game unenjoyable for casual or new players.  They are simply there to add some additional strategy to the game and give you an item that can help you further refine your strategy without costing you money in match.  This is an important demographic stardock and gpg are courting.

I personally believe that they should give you and edge in combat, but should not directly give you +damage or a spell/magic damage at distance. Attack speed, movement speed, whatever; but any sort of Damage will make the beginner's really angry. That's my beliefs, however.

Personally, I'm not so happy with the whole concept of favor items, but as long as they're cheap and provide just a slight benefit, as is the case now, they're OK.  Making them more powerful and expensive will make the game like World of Warcraft, where only the people who play the game 40 hours a week can stand up in player-versus-player mode -- not because they're that much better, but just because they have all the expensive items that let them kill lesser users on sight.  It's just no fun.

Many of us expressed this same view early on and from what Brad said at the time, it seems he agreed.

well i agree with you all on the fact that the game needs to be balanced... but i feel like the favor points are kind of a waste once you hit just over 1000 and can buy all the items... maybe allow people to unlock different skins for certain characters? that way the points do something but its only aesthetic..

Great idea, post this in demigod ideas.  This would be awesome.  Here's hoping we get enough purchases so frills like this can be added in addition to more maps and demigods.

If I read correctly normal skirmish (which should apparently be the main focus) will not have favour items. So this shouldnt be a big problem in the retail version. Also, Trigeminal, Gnats3 was right :) Frogboy said the current favour items we have are "level 1" ones, but in retail there will be higher "leveled" favour items. He said a 2v5 and 2v1 etc. would be possible with these new favour items. Again though, this wont be where the main comeptitive play is :)

Interesting.  Gnats usually is right.  Favor Items can already be disabled of course.  I like favor items and as OP stated they are easy to max out now, and I would love to see some stronger ones.  However, none should equal or exceed artifact shop items in my opinion.

It would also be cool if certain favor items gave certain aesthetic bonuses as well as statistical bonuses, so it's not just an alternate skin. I'd really love to see this implemented but I'm afraid it's probably too costly to the dev's at this point.

hmm i dont think those favor items that let you 2v5 or 1v2 should be allowed unless the game somehow recognizes that the teams are unfair.. i think that could only work under certain conditions

Teams A and B are equal in player number

       only level 1 items availabe

Team A has one player less than Team B

Team A has access to level 1&2 items, Team B only 1

Team A has two players less than Team B

Team A has access to level 1,2&3 items, Team B only 1&2

Team A has three players less than Team B

Team A has access to level 1,2,3&4 items, Team B only 1,2&3

Team A has four players less than Team B

Team A has access to level 1,2,3,4&5 items, Team B only 1,2,3&4

something like that to keep it balanced

It seems like the higher level favor items would require the automatic match-making to keep them fair, unless they do something like cause a player to take up multiple player slots.

As for other ways to spend favor, won't the Pantheon eventually allow you to spend it on increasing your standing/decreasing someone else's?  That by itself will be a huge favor sink.

Unless my memory is failing me completely, Frogboy said somewhat-recently in IRC that favor items won't just make 1v3 and such possible, they will make it necessary in some situations.  I'm sure "normal" skirmish will be played mostly with favor items turned off or with players using equal levels/values of favor items, but one of the major goals for Demigod multiplayer was to have automatic matchmaking that could set up all kinds of unusual but even matchups.

I think the auto-matchmaking would make it so people with x favor play against a team with at least one player with x favor. Players with y favor will be spread about the game so that the total favor for each time would be roughly even. I suppose win % would also be a factor.

If you have 1000 favorpoints you Can NOT buy all the favor items, you can buy like 4 of the most expensive ones.

The thing atm is that your buys arent saved, so you have to rebuy them each game, I belive the system is meant to work as such you save up 300 favor, buy an item, then that item will always be pickable for you, every game.

You then go ahead and get more favor and buy the favoritems you think you may need, there are alot for different combinations of enemies or for whatever demigod you play.

In the end it means you will have to get something like 6000 total or so favor before you bought them all, And favor items are not even ballanced yet.

yeah, I understood it the way Sevenix describes.    I feel like there should be more items or steeper price scaling as well, since I find some of the weak little +10% bonus items I would never use them (or save to buy them).

I also dislike the current pricing of the favor items. I like the items themselves...however the current system means that pretty much after the first night of gaming you have them all. In Call of Duty 4 (which this system has been compared to) it would not make for a very fun achievment system if you had all of it unlocked on your first day...or even your first week. I think the number of items is appropriate and for the mostpart..the items seem pretty nifty and not highly overpowered. If not a change in prices than a significant change in the amount of favor given would do it....even if max was say 50pts a game, that's only six games to get 300 for a lower end item...20 games for 1000 to get a high end item. Sounds a little more viable than currently where we're seeing 150-200+ pts a game. Just a thought.

Well if that's the case, I'm not sure how anyone is expecting to really balance this bugger out before release. Seriously...it'd be tough enough to balance the skills, maps, and demigods already in the month or two left....throw in the items, which already are looking a bit lopsided...and then throw in some more items (later?). When would they get balanced or tested? ....if there's new content coming to the release package, I think the time would be like...erm, now, to get em in.
