Will Sins still work?

Current system is: XP Pro, 3GHz (dual processor), 2GB ram, ATI Radeon 9600 Xtasy (256MB), SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio. All drivers are up to date. Everytime I try to play the game, screen turns black and nothing happens for a long time. Then, dropped back to windows screen, while sound is "choppy" at best. So, will it still work? What changes do I need to make, if any?

assuming you have either 1.14 or entrenchment beta 3 remove all custom maps dated before 20th feb 2009 in both C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy(32 bit)C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy(64 bit) and C:\Documents and Settings\"user name"\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy(xp) C:\users\"user name"\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy vista/w7

there have been MANY threads with this exact same problem that the devs could have prevented if they had bumped the map version number to 3 instead of leaving it at 2

Hi,

Impulse stated there was a patch available, tried to download but, no avail. I did download the update from the SDC site. Since I can't even get "in" the game since purchasing, I'm assuming that I have the earlier version. I have no custom maps nor mods. I've read the FAQ's, the readme, even those thread similar. The solution listed so far hasn't corrected the problem.

I just had to reinstall Impulse. Now it says, the game isn't installed correctly, please search for an update. How can this be if installed directly from the CD? I'm really beginning to feel that this game just isn't worth the time nor the money that appears to be wasted. I'm not giving up just yet, just frustrated.

tsmnndvl5 to get the update you have to uninstall sins & entrenchment, then download the update with impulse, and I suggest removing all maps older that the 19th of feb. if you need instructions for this then here,

you have to remove ALL galaxy files older than 19 feb 2009 in

(C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy(32 bit) or

C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy(64 bit)) AND

C:\Documents and Settings\"user name"\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy (xp) or

C:\users\"user name"\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy).

an alternative is to do a windows search of the hard drives for all galaxy files (ie *.galaxy) then click on more advanced options and put a tick in search hidden files & folders BEFORE clicking on search

hope this helps

Ok, I understand what you're saying but, I don't have entrenchment installed. I have no mods. Just the standard game. I'll try removing all the maps and see what happens. This still doesn't make much sense since I'm installing from a cd. Then trying to download the update. I'll post what happens.

Welp, I deleted the maps... all this did was lock up the pc. At current time, am uninstalling the game. Will reinstall again from the CD. To reitirate, I DON'T have the latest version nor entrenchment, nor do I have any mods installed. I'm not going to give up on this until all options have been exhausted or the dev team says it's a no go.

ok if you only have sins and the date of the 'sins of a solar empire.exe" is the 21st of feb 2009 then you have ver 1.14,
if the date is 3rd feb 2009 then you have entrenchment beta 2.5,
if the date is 11th december 2008 then you have sins 1.12
if the date is 17th may 2008 then you have sins 1.05

if you install from a DVD and do not put any patch/bonus packs then you have 1.0 and does NOT support any mods

Hi,

The info I've found is, Jan. 18 2008. So, I assume I have the 1.00 version. At current time, am doing an update from impulse. Again, no mods, no beta. Am still unable to even get it to start.

I am sorry but I do not have any ideas why 1.0 would not run, but if you are downloading an update and trying to run the program you are updateing then that might be the problem, otherwise I would suggest emailing either support at stardock.com or support at ironcladgames.com

Thanks,

I'm not trying to play the game while updating. In fact, I'm getting an error from impulse while trying to download the update. I'll try emailing stardock support then. Again, thanks for your help.
