Feature Request - Only install for one user/all users

I love fences... LOVE IT! But the rest of the fam (wife and kids) don't know what to make of it. An install only for current user option would be cool, or a way to disable it for specific users would be cool.

I second the other feature request post about being able to collapse a given fence. That would be slick.

So when they logged on (after you installed fences) they were presented with the config dialog and you wished they weren't?

This is a minor 'issue', but for myself, on the PC that I have Fences installed on, I'm primary user.  I have 2 user accounts I use for different purposes (one is for system admin and troubleshooting, the other is for general usage).  I have 3 other accounts for other members for the household that are used rarely.

Games, most applications and utilities, do not get setup on my admin account or on the user accounts associated with the rest of the household.  So whenever a software install prompts me for profile setup, I tend to choose "Just for this account".  Again, it's a minor issue/feature for me with respect to Fences, but it would be preferable to have the option to install only on the active user account and leave other profiles untouched.

That said, I've not logged into the other accounts to see if Fences setup initiates or not - so this may be a dead issue for me.

It does.

Yup. It pops up everytime the kids/wife login and they won't be using Fences (they've only got a handful of icons anyway).

Pops up every time?  Have they closed it?

Disable fences :: It's a very well hidden feature... :P

Open the tools tab, go to more tools (a small link at the bottom of the window), then uncheck the "enable fences" checkbox.

(it's a per user setting)

Understood. However, with 6 users on my PC it'd be nice to be able to just decide "install for all users" or "install for current user" at installation time. I'm the only one with enough icons to need it. That way I don't have to go in for 6 different users and turn the functionality OFF for everyone else.

Hey T1Pimp,

I am using Fences 2.0 and had the same question. I asked the Stardock customer care, and they told me that I can only disable Fences in the control panel individually for each user. Then I found a workaround for this issue.

I figured out that the checkmark "Disable Fences" in the control panel creates a REG_DWORD value 1 called "Disabled" in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stardock\Fences. I loaded the registry hive for the default user and created the same "Disabled" value. I used the following instruction: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/146050.

Now when a new user logs to my computer, she does not see Fences welcome screen, but she can enable Fences in the control panel.
