In regard to ObjectDock

What am I supposed to do with 2 dockzip files? Windows Vista doesn't know what to do, they do not self-extract to anywhere and the wiki info about how to install themes/backgrounds is not clear to me as to what I should do when vista will not do anything with the dockzip files? Also, I have a mac osx background or theme zip file that has NO folder inside. What do I do? I was thinking I could just copy and paste these troublemakers into the backgrounds folder and see if that works but I am unsure of that idea. Any help would be great!

Right click on the dock and select tab or dock settings. Then select themes from the side menu in the window that opens. Second button down on the right is "Import a package" use this to browse your PC to where you stored the .dockzip files then select and open. This should inport the Dock BG's and related stuff for that theme directly to OD.

Do I do the same for the zip file that has no folder inside, but some files? Also, how do I now change the theme? Also, now the only theme I have is the default. Why aren't the themes in there that were part of the dockzip files unless they are in the backgrounds folder? They do not seem to be in there either. I wish configuration wasn't this tricky or tiresome. Thanks for any help that can be provided.

In your other post you mentioned that you have - "I also have a mac osx zip file that does not have a folder inside, but just a few files."

Are you running Vista on a Mac? Is ObjectDock the trial or the Plus version?

Also, please read the entire entry for ObjectDock on the Wiki as it answers just about all your questions.

Hankers, that wiki is not clear, and it doesn't help or answer my questions. I am running Vista home on a toshiba satellite 2.0 centrino

with 3 gigs of ram.

"Self-installing .dockzip packages install to the My Documents\Stardock\ObjectDock Library folder by default. In this case, it might be necessary to copy over the files to the Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDock\backgrounds folder*.

*The location of this folder may vary from system to system depending on your preference of install location."

You could also try right-clicking on a dockzip file and selecting Open with and then Choose default program. From there find the ObjectDock exe file and select that as the program to open dockzip files.

I don't know if this will help you or not, because I have XP not Vista, but I always extract ObjectDock backgrounds or icons this way...

When the download opens up in my Zip program (I use AlZip by EST) I 'extract' it to: Program Files/Stardock/ObjectDock/Backgrounds - for backgrounds or /Themes for icons.

Explore that folder - Program Files/Stardock/ObjectDock - you shoud see folders for Backgrounds, Bundled Images, Docklets, Lang, Running Indicators, Themes - and it should give you an idea of how things should be filed so that they work.

Hope this helps, works for my XP system, but I've never used vista, so I'm not sure.
