WB 6.3 issue

buttons/black parts of screen

Hi all,

i bought WB a few days ago, and i installed it on my laptop. However there's a few things not working the way they should be.

My laptop is being used for private and work purposes, and seeing as i have my own little store, i have a program to make invoices and such.

However, the buttons on the bottom panel in the program aren't responding to mouseclicking at all, the rest of the program works fine. I know its WB since when i unload it, it works again, however, it doesn't matter wich theme i'm using. All have the same problem.

So i tried installing it on my dads laptop, and he's getting black covered up parts on his screen in IE (mainly the bottom bar witht he status and other usefull info) and with the tabs. The center part works good.

Are these problems familiar to any of you? and if so, how can i do anything about it? the biggest problem is the buttons, i got about 10 to 15 orders a day via my webshop, and in my store i need to make a few invoices per day as well for customers.

the details from my laptop are:

the details from my dad's laptop i can't currently access due to it standing at home and me being at work.

Thanks in advance for helping me solve my problem

I have  had a couple of programs that don't like Windowblinds...so, I don't have WB skin those.  To do that, open the WB config window.  Click on the settings tab > Change the look of an app > Add per application setting.  Scroll to the executable of the program in question (i.e., blah-blah.exe). select it, click open.  You will then have a screen pop up with various options.  Check the total exclusion box, click ok.  Then be sure to click Save my changes at the top of the WB config window.  The next time you start the program hopefully, all will be well.

The total exclusion worked, i had the app in my exclusion list, just forgot to tick that particular box. THANKS :D:D:D

now only problem that remains is the stuff on my dad's laptop. the black bits on screen, i'll post a screenie as soon as i get home and have access to the laptop.

The strange thing is, that only the laptop type and model differ, both have windows vista home edition, IE7, and both have the windowsblinds installed via impulse. Both same theme, but mine works and keeps on working (except that button thing) but his just blacks things out.

Is your dad's problem occuring when he has that same program running on it? , If so, try a total exclusion on your dad's laptop too.  Whenever I come across a program that won't work right, I first try to exclude it from being skinned.  Since I got Vista at Christmas, I have had a few problem apps that didn't respond to the exclusion, so then I went and set them to run in compatibility mode for an earler version of Windows.  To do that, right click on the shortcut for the program, click on the compatibilty tab, and check the box for it to run for Windows XP.

Hope one of these will fix the problem for your dad...if the issue is not related to the program, then we will have to figure out something else.

You need to read the EULA. The product license is for your computer(s) not for yours and your dads. His problem may well be activation.

I only installed it on his, coz mine was giving some freaky results, so i wanted to know if it was something theme related/program related/computer related issue.

besides, in the license i think i read that the activation was for 1 ip-adress (which equals the computers in my house, including my dads) or for 1 computer at a time, which i abide as well. seeing as i've uninstalled in my comp prior to installing it on my dads. Using the same account info on both laptops in impulse, should be enough to get the activation properly done, otherwise it wouldn't nearly be possible to get a new computer withouth the activation going crazy :P

The problem is for what i've seen, only occuring in IE7, haven't really tried anything else, but the strange thing is, IE7 skins perfectly on my laptop, both using the same theme. I guess, that one of his background programs could cause this, i'll try and exclude some tonite.

p.s. i kinda hate vista :P xp was so easy to skin, and vista won't even work properly with a lot of suites on wincustomize. but that's not the major issue i have with it, it's the resctriction microsoft has put into everything, and a downgrade isn't possible for my laptop :( tried, but can't find all drivers for xp.

from the EULA.txt that you will find in the Windowblinds installation directory........

YOU MAY:
1. Install and use one copy of the
SOFTWARE on a single computer.
2. Install a second copy of the SOFTWARE on a
second computer only if you are the main user of
this computer (home computer or laptop for
example).
3. Install the SOFTWARE on another computer only
if you change your main workstation. In such a case
you must uninstall the software from the old
computer.
4. Use the SOFTWARE via a network, only if you
have purchased an adequate number of licenses.
The number of users must not exceed the number of
licenses you have purchased.
5. Make a copy of the SOFTWARE for archival
purposes only.

i think i can assume that's what i did by uninstalling it from my own computer and installing it on my dads for testing purposes, since it was at 1 computer at a time.

*points to number 3 as well* i changed my main workstation for a short amount of time, and i uninstalled it from my own computer before i tried it on my dads one. I mean, if i couldn't use it, maybe i could make my dad happy.

but tbh that's not the issue here, the issues i got, don't have anything to do with the license, i've been using it from 1 computer at a time, and on my dads laptop, most of the stuff just went black. I've seen a post about it somewhere due to faulty cracks, but i bought the "object desktop ultimate"  for about 70 dollars and i've purchased object dock plus as well. so i pay for what i like, and for that price, i expect it to function properly no matter what type of computer i install it on :P

basically the bars and such from the skins function the way they should, but the rest, where text and such is printed out, and pop-up menu's and such, is black text on a black background. I can't take a screenshot from it since it would mean i have to uninstall the stuff from my comp again, and reinstall it on my dads laptop. But i only wanted to point it out, and possibly get a solution for it, not only for me but for other users as well.

You see, my dad likes the program as well, and he was considering of buying it himself after he had seen it on my computer (the trial versions that is) and after he had seen me using it on his laptop with the black stuff, he basically said "son, never mind that, i'm not paying so much money for a program that only works half. I'll just stick with what vista shows me", so i'm kinda looking for a solution so he will reconsiderin and still buy the suite as well. coz it truly is a wonderfull thing.

btw, is there something wrong with thememanager, coz every suite i download from wincustomize i can't seem to apply to my computer. the button fades to grey and nothing happens.

That could quite easily be a skin-specific issue. Some are setup 'expecting' certain font colours/etc in the system settings.  Obviously black text on black is going to be problematic....

If the skin is simply not drawing completely for IE7 but works fine on other apps then a likely culprit can be browser 'add-ons'...search bars etc.  Check your browser add-ons vs your dad's....;)

I've been trying the activation issue deleting every single stardock reference on my computer, and installing the stuff on my dads again. but still the same problem.

We both are using windows vista home, and the program versions from the impulse downloader. Also i've downloaded exactly the same theme.

It isn't only in IE, but in every other window as well. For example the properties window from an executable, you can't see a thing. If you go to the compatibility tab, the text is black, the background is black, and you can only see the whitepart of the pull-out menu, but when you click next to it (on feeling) to get the menu to show the different options, everything is black. This problem only occurs on my dad's laptop. On my own laptop, everything worked almost perfect.

after looking at the skin on wincustomize again, i can't see a vista ready icon, does that mean this could be the culprit?

You need to check "Advance Options"
