Need a debug reader

Regular Support is busy...

Hi,

My TotA crashes in the middle of every game (Yes, Vid driver is latest,  Yes, I have enough Vir Mem, Yes, I read everything I could find on the subject & YES, I e-mail Tech Support ([#QMR-667890]: Twlight crashes in middle of game).

David Marquis
Technical Advisor
Stardock Corporation
15090 N Beck Rd. Suite 300
Plymouth, MI 48170

Says "I have forwarded your debug.err to our Development Team for their review and recommendations.
You should hear back from someone soon."

That was on Jan 27th and I still hope to hear something BUT perhaps someone can see my problem easily and give me the fix?

If you can help, please answer this post and tell me where to send the debug (hate to post it in the wrong place, I have seen there is "hell" to pay for that).

(and if you guys in Tech Support see this, am trying to be patient... just want to make good on my $39.95)

Thanks,

Dfrosty1

does "bump" still work?

well given the content of your post, I have as a individual browsing the forums not enough information to know or see what's happening

Since I'm not going the guess route, and throwing in random solutions, I will only advise that you either :

-1 provide more information to the community here (after all, the community found a registry bug lately after a specific update, and then the "solution" was adopted by stardock  )

-2 wait for the devs to answer, which may take some time (more than 4 days is a taken) , since after who am I to question the support team in their decision that a dev needed to answer your specific issue. ^_^'

If it happens between turns it could be the result of one of the game's random events.  If you look at the bottom of the debug.err you'll see what was logged right before the crash.

Never heard back from the Devs or Stardock or anybody...   I even wrote another e-mail (RE: [#QMR-667890]: Twlight crashes in middle of game).    Requesting help....

Guess they got the $39.00, and I got an unplayable game.  (or they know it's unplayable, and decided there is nothing they can do, so they just stay quiet until I quit asking for help)

Sad, Stardock use to give good support, that Brad guy must be gone now.

Anyway, Looks like you might be right, this is the end of my last debug from my latest Crash.  (the last entry is about random events)

Thanks for the response,   DFrosty1

unplayable is a bit far fetched, don't you think ? random events being as random as they are, shouldn't render the game unplayable or did I miss something not written in this post ?

though, the only problem I'm aware of with random events is the "dread lords" one

Actually "unplayable" is true if you want to finish a game.   (I guess to a Lawyer, because I played part of a game, it is techincally playable to that point)

I have started over 20 TotA Games, and never finished one due to the Error message and the Game shutting down to Desk Top or Freezing the Computer causing a reboot.

I have numerously tried to start back up using the autosave and my own saves, only to be knocked out again.

I appreicate your defense of the Company (and I am still playing Dread Lords), I just wanted to know if there was anything someone on this board might know (which is the one of the things forums like these do).

Yes, I am a little peeved that Stardock has abandoned my "trouble report, [#QMR-667890]" BUT I'll get over it.

I find it, strange that you are not able to finish a game due to random events. o_O

because AFAIK loading a savegame should NOT restart the same random event at the same point. 8|

I personnaly set my autosave to each and every turn, that way when I get a problem (it happens), I can load right where I was

Ho and I'm replying with what little info I got in your thread, I'm not trying to defend the company at all in this specific case just thinking that random events bugs shouldn't in any case prevent a game being finished as far as I'm aware of the situation, or else I wouldn't be able to myself.

That said I'm not playing 2.x yet but I should have heard of something of the sort before, if it was impossible like that... which leads me to .... I think there might be another problem of some sort around here which is not tied to random events...

Also the fact is, this thread has not much content to work with, which... really is fine by me, but you can't expect forumers to be fortune tellers so to speak ... ;)

Finally, I feel your pain, I got a problem years ago with dread lords only to get replied something along the lines : "someone's number 1 bug to be fixed is NOT everyone's number 1 bug", so stardock support is VERY FAR from being perfect  (a loadgame bug which meant that the first turn after loading made no change to the world except moving ships one more time if you ever wonder. and this affected everyone who saved the game) And at the same time Stardock was actively working on several new features... :hugme:

Here is the 1st debug I sent into Stardock, it says nothing about random events...   The only reason I thought maybe it is related was because of what the earlier poster said & the fact 1 of my debugs ended with a random event (I think I agree with you, it is probably not related)

Below is my debug file, please look at it and see if anything looks bad… especially the “Debug Message:  Destroying Window” comment.

Hum this seems like a normal debug "Destroying Window" is 100% normal.

I note that the game seems to post and recieve a "WM_CLOSE". While recieving such a message is normal when you close the game, it seems the game itself triggers that "WM_CLOSE" message/event. ("post")

although maybe not related I would personnaly make sure that no background applications  AND screensaver could trigger while playing

Also looking at your debug, I see that you are still in 1.96 like me, I'm surprised no support guy told you to update first and foremost! Even though I do not believe it will solve anything, I seriously doubt devs would look at anything else than the latest version !

We've not abandoned your ticket, The Dev's are working hard on all of these types of errors, the 2 subsequent replies you sent after my reply just puts your ticket down at the end of the list. I have 'poked' the Devs to get you an answer soon.
