Questions for experienced players

I've been playing for a while but I'm trying to delve into larger and more complex maps, and I've realized that I don't understand how a few things work.  I'm hoping that you can help me out.

1.  When jumping from star to star, can you jump to any planet on the other star?  If not, which ones can you jump to?  How does this differ from using wormholes, which appear to connect only to one another?

2.  What precisely do trade ports and orbital refineries do?  I have the general impression that trade ports generate money and refineries help improve resource production, but I don't know the details.

3.  How is upkeep calculated?  It appears to be a flat percent of your total production, but I'm not clear whether it applies only to money, or to all resources.

4.  Am I correct that Vasari starbases can move within a gravity well but TEC and Advent starbases cannot?

Thanks for the help.

1. Stars can go only to other stars, but go to any star. Then you explore the other system like normal, just from the inside-out.

2. Trade Ports make money by sending trade ships around. Refineries make resources by sending refinery ships to metal/crystal extractors within one jump. Extractors have a quota of how many refineries they can support.

3. All resources.

4. Yes, in the current version. May change later.

Mouse over the credit/metal/crystal amounts in the display to show an infocard detailing production in that area.

1) You can only jump from a star to a star, not star to a planet around another star. This differs from wormholes because wormholes are linked as a pair, but from a star you can jump to any other star.

2) Trade ports build their own trade ships that ferry goods around and generate extra income. I think it's 1.5 credits/second per trade port unmodified. They stack linearly, and there's also a bonus multiplier to trade port income along the longest uninterrupted trade chain (the thick white line when you hover over the credit display). Refineries do a similar thing, each refinery produces a refinery ship for each resource mine in its grav well and one jump away, so 3 refineries at a planet will max out resource extractor capacity in their well and all connected planets. The Advent refinery is different because it's just a different mode for their trade port, it only improves its own grav well production, but significantly more.

3) It's a percentage of all gain, credits and resources, and even resources/credits you get from other players are reduced by the upkeep.

4) Yes, you are :)

Edit: Ninja fox.

1.0 :)

Modified by trade port route longest length (+0.075 per), as well as game speed (x1.15/x1.3 IIRC).

Also, for the record, Advent trade ports in resource mode suck ass.

Yeah, has anyone ever done the math on these?  I don't play Advent much, but with a cursory look at the ability, I couldn't figure out why anyone would want one of these in resource mode.

i always have one advent tradeport and one Resource hub but your right i dont see the difference so normally switch to heavy Trading and buy the resources and undercut the enemy and my allies

I prefer to save the logistical spot and use another temple to spread my lovely influence everywhere.
