Hey i just preordered demigod!

but there are no one playing the beta?? and i cant join games!!

So i started playing dota allstars some days ago and instantly got hooked. then i heard that demigod was very much inspired by dota allstars, so today when i came home from work i pre-ordered the game straight away so i could get into the beta and play!!

but to my surprise there are so few ppl playing! around 7pm gmt+1 there were one hosting. but i couldnt connect to him like after 10min or so. and some minutes later he was gone. he was still 0/2 in his game :/

i know this is beta but still, i didnt know demigod was such a sleeper! i thought due to its dota likeness there would be tons of ppl preordering it!

anyways i wanted to get some help too. as mentioned i cant connect to hosts? what ports are demigod using?

and then i also wanted to say that after playing the fast paced dota, demigod seemed very slow paced and lacked the words-in-your-face nature of dota :P
(i played 5min with computers 2x2)

Yeah correct on both counts.  Demigod is a lot slower paced then Dota and it has becomekind of a sleeper lately.  The mai problem is the connectivity issues.  It isn't that you don't have the ports forwarded right it is a problem with the current demgod netcode that they are working on.  The new build is supposed to come out this week so I am guessing then you will see a huge spike and hopefully it can be sustained if the next build is more fun.  I am with you right now, I will stick to dota.  Demigod has a lot of potential but right now it is hard to get into don't get all your hopes crushed because this is kind of early beta but you will probably have to comedown from that high I know I experienced when I thought they were remaking dota but better.

I think there are alot of people playing just due to connect issues, you dont see it.My friend and i hade to close the game and remake games 3 times before they even showed up on the server list.

Like snake said this is still early beta even now, but anyone who has played since almost the start when the only demigods you could play were rook regulus and torch bearer on one map at that this game has come a very very long way.

And i think in time its gonna get much much better, remeber this is Gas powerd games and chris taylor we are dealing with.

The only problem is the connctivity issues!

yeh i know its gaspowered games, and they are awesome, played galciv 1 to death, was having nightmares about techonology trees :P

anyways i didnt know there were connectivity issues, that would explain some...

hope it will get more like dota, because there is no reason to change the good stuff in a winner, you just need to add even better stuff!!! im hoping thats what demigod will be, like 50+ dgs, really fast paced, crazy announcer and BIG coloured words flying left and right! hope they get rid of the casting time too.. or at least make it ultrashort and most will be instant when maxed out, cause otherwise it becomes too much of luckbased on who gets the kill! but i guess this is for the beta feedback/idea section!

edit: oh yeah, one of the main problem was that I CAN CONNECT!!! it says "TRYING TO CONNECT" forever! why? i can see the game, just not connect to it...

It says "Trying to Connect" for ever because there are connectivity issues :P.  If I understand it right, the multiplayer client for Demigod makes it so you don't need to mess around with ports - a new player can just login and that is it - but the technology is very new so it doesn't work very well yet.  GPG and Stardock are working on this though.

One thing I can guarantee is that there will not be 50+ Demigods, or even close.  One thing you need to remember is that, although this was partially inspired by DotA, Demigod is not DotA 2.  Demigod is its own game.  Casting time is likely to stay, big colored words don't sound very likely, etc.  If you want DotA, play LoL or whatever it is called.

hmm your right about the 50+ demigods. but they could do it close if they just say, made rook the part upgrade dude. then make another guy the tower pulling/making dude, and another guy the feasting dude. then they have 3 demigods!

it only becomes harder for balance the less dg and more skill the dg has. but if the dg has few skills and there are tons of them, it would balance itself out mostly because some have to be stronger than the other when it is many dgs (and therefore overall easier to balance for teh devs too). like the mage, one could be fire mage, one could be ice mage etc instead of all just to one guy? it also makes the variety bigger by having different avatars for the fire mage and the ice mage than just the same guy with (althoug very cool) fire/ice effects... out of the 4assasins u could probably make 12dgs already!!! each having their own sound/look/feel is better than one dude having lots of skills to choose from! that you have to agree?

I have to disagree completely.  I would much rather have one Demigod that plays very differently rather than four Demigods that each plays exactly the same every game.  First of all, having that many different Demigods would mean that each would look horrible; lots of time and money has to be spent to make the Demigods look as amazing as they do.  I'd rather not play a game that looks like it was hastily put together.

The gameplay is another issue.  Why is it good to have a ton of Demigods if each is so shallow?  What if I pick the version of the Rook that makes towers, and my opponent plays as Regulus with the range upgrades.  Oh great, I just lost since my powers are useless.  As soon as I chose a Demigod, I would be forced to play a certain way since my Demigod is so specialized.  It would be boring.  After two or three games as a particular Demigod, I would have played every possible combination and there would be no interest in playing as him/her again.

Also, how does more Demigods = better balance?  Having 40 useless Demigods and 10 OP ones is not a good thing.  What is the point of having 50 Demigods if most of them are too weak to use?  Sure, you have a few left to choose from, but they are so shallow that you would get bored with them pretty quickly...

i'm with gnats3 on this one and also demigod against people is pretty fast and also demigod  is supposed to be alittle slower because it has sopme rts aspects to it.

Yeah agreed soccer when you play actual people it becomes MUCH more intense flag grabbing and tactics.  The thing is I understand a lot of what doc is saying about hwo they should stick to a dota like recipe as that is kind of what they promised or were "inspired by" and so many of their players will no doubt be coming from dota.  I of course don't think we should dumb down and split each hero up I just think what you need to consider is that when you put yourself next to a tall measuring stick it is easy to fall short and disappoint people.  Don't worry doc Demigod will be a good game in its own right although it is based on a dota style.

I Agree with Gnats 100%.

Being a seasoned dota player myself. I love dota and got excited that demigod was inspired by it. Dota has great qualities about it and makes it Unique, But its good becuase of what it is. Demigod is just the same Its very Unique and is great in the ways its played. It is similar to dota in the fact with controling hero and killing creeps, lvling, buying items, ganking, and killing the enemy base But it is very different. Heros in DG are way more in depth, Flags add more tact and stategy to it. Upgrades on your armys, Play style of generals ect. . .

just becuase its inspired by it doesn;t mean it will be the same It just means they pulled some general ideas from it and molded it into somthing else. Great example is FPS games, they all have the same concept and ideas but they are presented and played very different. like halo and CoD4 for example.
