Tournaments

This is a question for the GPG and Stardock people, but I would love to hear other opinions as well.  If Stardock and GPG are planning on hosting official tournaments for the game, I wondered if GPG and Stardock would be willing to sponsor on going ranked Demigod tournments like Cal does.  The Cal system basically advances players through a tiered system, where the finalists and best players of the first tournaments are invited to a higher level tournament.  By following a model like Cal, Demigod could create a great player base and involve even mediocre players towards the competitive aspects of the game.

This would definitely make Demigod attractive. I'm sure that the dev team will acommodate for a ranked, laddered tournament. The major problem I see in this is that if there were to be an imbalance in the game, and such an imbalance was capitalized upon in a tournament setting, would the team be forced to forfeit their title? Whose fault is it at that point in time, the player or the developers and testers?

Perhaps the question is a bit ahead of its time, but is being considered constantly. It would be a great boon but probably very far in the future.

If the devs are looking to make Demigod an e-sport this would be an important first step.

I don't think competitors should be held responsible for exploits or imbalances, as long as the exploit is a known issue and not explicitly banned in play.

Most of the people that get butthurt after losing to the "imbalances" would feel as though competitors should be.

Not to mention this forces the gameplay to "get with it or get gone" for that particular tournament. :x And some people decide to lose by not partaking in said imbalanced strategy.

I think this is irrelavent as a tournament would not occur 2 weeks after launch.  If an imbalance was found, it would probably be written into the rules of the tournament.  For example in Dota tournaments, it is illegal to teleport to the chicken, but it can be done under normal games.  This is something that would not worry me if the game is balanced as it should be.

Tournements would definetly have to wait until the game has the major imbalances patched up.

That's why tournaments aren't being introduced until beta3.

Hopefully by then we all find teams. ^_^
